Drain Storm is a game released in 1997.
I would describe it as a turn-based roguelike (roguelite?) with projectiles that's surprisingly fun and mechanically interesting.

The game is really unknown.
There are almost no articles and no videos about the game.

The only article I found is an old 2007 TIGSource post.

I also created a video review about the game:

I wonder what happened to the original author - I spent some hours trying to track him down to ask if he still had the game's source code, but I think it's impossible to find him with the information that's available.
And, I'm not the only one curious about that...

This game is a lot of fun - if you can spend some time to get it to run (you either need a 32-bit Windows virtual machine or Wine) I strongly encourage you to try it.
I'm seriously considering creating a remake - there is a lot of potential here in my opinion Smiley

Great review and awesome game! It always makes me happy to see obscure gems like this spotlighted. Looks like it would be right up my alley.

Yeah, Drain Storm is rad!

The only article I found is an old 2007 TIGSource post.

Makes me feel good. Smiley

Glad you're bringing it back up and I'd love to see some kind of remake/homage/new game inspired by it. It strikes a great balance between DROD and roguelites.

Somehow I played a ton of drain storm off a demo disk like, 15 years ago. It's really good.
