Alrighty, got a two-for-one question here.

1) Facebook ads for a free iOS/Android game (with ads and a Pro version available).

Given a budget of $100, would running Facebook ads directing people to the app described above be beneficial? Anyone have any personal experience/wise words regarding Facebook ads in this sense? How many clicks per day were you getting? What max cost-per-click did you set? Over what time period? Was it worth it? Something better to do with the money?

2) App submission services.

So after submitting my app to dozens of review sites manually, I came across this: http://www.androidb.com/110-app-review-requests/

I'm sure there are others offering the same service, but I'm wondering if this is also worth my time/money? For $100 I'd have my app submitted to 140 of these Android review sites. Has anyone used such a service before and can offer some words of wisdom?

Hey there,

I can't answer your second question but from what I've read/heard and from my own experience, Facebook ads are pretty useless. I wouldn't count on it to have a big impact, sure you might get more 'Likes' but I've heard/experienced situations where these likes just seem fake (read sketchy profiles/bots) and you don't gain much interaction on your facebook page, if none at all.

I used Facebook ads when I was working for another business, before funding Bishop Games, and the results were pretty underwhelming. Like I said, it may work for you, but from my experience it's not very efficient.

Of course 100$ ain't much so you have nothing to lose, but at this point I would target a website/media known to attract the kind of players that will like your game. Try to gather up like 300-400$ and discuss possibilities with these websites. I know Rock Paper Shotgun and Destructoid are pretty chill. IMO, it's better to directly advertise on a media that targets your public than on Facebook, where you might get a couple downloads/likes. Facebook is too vast, like an ocean, if you will.

You can also contact Youtubers that do Lets Play videos of similar games. It's win-win, if they like the game, it creates them content and you get exposure.

Good luck!

Yes, I recommend don't aim for likes, aim for visits to your website.
As said, some likes seem pretty strange.

All I've heard about Facebook ads is that Facebook just pays a bunch of brown people from India and such to "like" your page to try and prove that the ads are working. Then you go to post something and nobody pays attention because, well, they're not real people.
