Hey everybody! Was wondering if anyone has checked out the new audio features in Unity 5 as of yet and would like to share their thoughts on the new update? Just after installing it for myself though won't have time to take a closer look at it for a while  Cry

I'm also curious about its compatibility with FMOD and Wwise. In the past, you needed the full version of unity to integrate FMOD. Perhaps you can use Unity Personal now with FMOD for free?

I would highly recommend FABRIC with Unity - http://www.tazman-audio.co.uk which is a NATIVE - crossplatform (since it's native to unity) audio middleware solution.  Supports event driven audio, mix states... mixing desk,

Take a look, see what you think for yourselves. It runs on Unity 5.

It's awesome yes but it's definitly not as good (and valuable as a skill to learn if you're a student) as Wwise and Fmod.

Having one of them free would be really awesome for Unity5.

Yeah I've heard from some people that FMOD studio is useless because you can do everything in Unity. Is that actually true or are they talking about the FMOD API?
I thought that FMOD was meant to be integrated into Unity, not compete with it?

FMOD is just like Wwise you can definitly do more with FMOD than with the basic Unity stuff (which is awful before Unity 5 and a bit better now apparently but I did not test it yet).

So when WWise first showed it's head people were saying 'why should we learn wwise, there's fmod which does everything'. I saw it's merits and started supporting it 8 years ago before it boomed. Since have shipped one massive title with it and a second growing title and even helped shape it's features by providing technicl design ideas and working with audio kinetic who are a great bunch of customer focused people. Look where it stands in the industry today. I have also been using FMOD for over 10 years and it has proven time and time again to be an invaluable resource for the right project.

In my opinion - being a technical sound designer, Fabric is going to be THE go to tool for Unity and you will see it grow hugely in the next year or two. I would say still learn FMOD and WWIse of course as they both have their merits and are widely used. However, if you are using Unity for projects, learn and support Fabric. Again, it's Native, which means things translate cross platform very easily. Working with a tool as such, you will help shape how it affects unity game audio and that is what this industry is about - collaboration and support.
