Summary

Earth Overclocked is a twin-stick shooter with rogue-like elements, set in a very distorted, unstable version of our world where trees are evil, snowmen have protruding laser blasters, and monsters from popular myths dwell underground. A scientist is trapped here after his time machine explodes while traveling back in time, and he must reassemble his machine to escape before this crazy dimension collapses under its own instability. With only 20 minutes to explore Distorted Earth, defeat boss monsters, and reclaim the pieces to the time machine, the adrenaline rush is real!

Fortunately for the Scientist, a variety of powerful weapons can be found hidden in locked chests and sold from menacing black-robed merchants, ranging from simple weapons like shotguns and boomerangs to crazy arsenal such as paintball guns, leaf magnums, and even cheese!

In true rogue-like fashion, death is permanent and means starting over, but Distorted Earth is randomized between playthroughs to give a fresh experience with every new run, and there are over 35 permanent unlockables, including new weapons, game modes, and classes.

Features

  • Enjoy the experience by yourself, or team up with up to 3 friends in Local Multiplayer!
  • Short, intense playthroughs which greatly differ from each other.
  • Very challenging, rewarding gameplay with a "just one more go" feel.
  • Non-linear exploration. Clear the main events in any order. (Or follow the game's suggested route.)
  • Procedurally generated overworld, dungeons, and monster pools.
  • 6 different environments and dungeon themes.
  • 4 main classes unlocked from the start, each with different starting weapons and passive abilities.
  • 2 bonus unlockable classes.
  • 40+ enemy types with unique behaviors and upgraded variants.
  • 20+ difficult boss encounters. Fight a different group of bosses in every playthrough!
  • 30+ gameplay-altering weapon types.
  • 35+ unlockable content which change or add to the experience.
  • Stats of both enemies and weapons are procedurally generated.
  • An unlockable hard mode with more challenges and rewards.
  • Over 70 game over messages.

Our GUI is pretty much complete, could use a few tweaks but the team is generally happy with it.

"Well that was a bad idea."

Featuring enemies from the unlockable Crystal Biome! :D

Now I need to set a reminder for myself to remove the "Spawn 100 Enemies" button...

Weeee!

This game WILL challenge you. Even the overworld isn't too happy to see you in this fast-paced rogue-lite!

(The new thing in this screenshot is screen shaking for satisfying combat. Also it's our first gif of the game.)

More important news is that a few days ago, my team has recently submitted our entry to Steam Greenlight! You can check out all of the details, including a new video, by clicking the image below. We're currently at over 500 votes and counting! Please help us get on Steam!

I'll make sure to update this topic more often. Thanks for reading!

We have something pretty cool to show in a few days when it's ready, but until then, I will be explaining each of Earth Overclocked's main classes.

Ninja Class

The speedy way to play. Faster movement, and an automatic dagger throw attack. Cannot take many hits.

Starting Weapons:
Boomerang
Leaf Magnum

Magnet Class

The convenient, yet inconvenient way to play. All consumables and chests (including the ones that are not free to open) are attracted. Inability to inflict knockback.

Starting Weapons:
Glove
Seeker

Gym Class

The risky way to play. Weapons never break and increase movement speed when held. Equipped weapons also increase in weight over time, and speed boosts are eventually negated.

Starting Weapons:
Whip
Boomerang

This is the last class showcase. I'd rather not spoil the two unlockables ones.

I will post a nice surprise on Sunday. It is complete and ready to be shared!

Scientist Class

The basic way to play. It has no bells nor whistles, except for an automatic single-use revive potion.

Starting Weapons:
Branch
Pistol

We have some other cool bosses as well, such as a guy wearing a fedora who creates shadow clones of himself, and an electrified zombie.

Another late update, but we were actually greenlit on Steam!

We have been running a closed beta of the game on Steam and we plan to release the game very soon.

Since the team is actively developing the game again, I'll go back to updating this blog more often.

Keep an eye out for Steam keys for the closed beta! I will post them here at random intervals in update posts.
