Hi All,
I'm  a little late bringing this here, but we have a monthly shmup jam running through 2015.
Introducing the Shmup Jam:

Shmups, Shoot-em-ups, STGs etc.
The jams are all about these games and derivations.
As long as your game conforms in some way to the Wikipedia definition, its ok by us!

**UPDATES**
**Shmup Jam Wave 05 is underway! Open to all!

Joining In
There is no sign-up required.. simply get involved in the forum posts and game portals. Play and rate games, or develop your own content.
Join teams or fly solo.

Activity Feeds
Tweet progress with the hashtag #shmupjam. Screenshots, video uploads, and blog posts of jam games will be pulled into the jam feed while they're being worked on.

To participate you do not need to be affiliated with any particular game site or portal, simply let us know what you are working on and where we can see your work.
However, the most exposure will come from uploading your games to portal sites such as Game Jolt, NewGrounds, Kongregate etc.

Jam Idea
Our idea was to start off easy with the earliest created shmups as inspiration. Then we steadily grow in experience and tools each month allowing us to tackle more complex games.

The rules are fairly open for this jam.. it's not really a competition, just for fun.
Create something retro looking, modernise a classic.. If you find yourself with a free weekend, perhaps simplicity could be the key to getting in a quick submission.
You have a whole month per jam, so plenty of time.

If you are into this genre, or simply just want to give it a go, we'd love to see you there.
You might also check out our Shmup community over on deviant art the Shmuproom, which has all kinds of inspiration on it too.

Cheers all,
-kb

We updated our compilation images of the games created in waves 01-04.

Our latest ShmupJam 05 is Live.. as we celebrate the best of the 16-bit era shmups.
Look out for our game 'Air Blaze' which will be a classic styled side shoot-em-up in the vein of "AeroBlasters"!

Any help in spreading the word about shmup jam greatly appreciated!
