Come hack away your weekend at one of the world's most staggering threats, cause you might win money, or you might save the world: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/n-square-google-cardboard-hackathon-tickets-16729010922
Check out the invite for full details, resource packets and background info.

The Challenge

Calling all developers, programmers, gamers, designers, artists, storytellers, and creatives who want to change the world! N Square—a collaborative of the world’s largest peace and security funders—invites you to a weekend Google Cardboard hackathon to develop an app or experience that sparks public imagination and conversation about the threats associated with nuclear weapons.

Why Cardboard? Why N Square?

Google Cardboard is a low-cost virtual reality viewer that transforms a smartphone into a basic VR headset. N Square’s mission is to create the conditions for innovation in the field of nuclear security. One way we can do that is by educating people about the threat and engaging them through powerful, connective experiences—hence the Cardboard Hackathon.

Why nukes?
Nuclear weapons are one of the greatest threats to human life and planetary sustainability in existence today. Right now, 9 countries have more than 16,000 weapons, many of which are on hair trigger alert and are pointed at heavily populated targets all over the world. Experts and governments don’t have a monopoly on ideas related to this global threat, every sector has a stake in this issue, which means that every sector can contribute to it.

Think you have what it takes to hack a nuclear narrative and change hearts and minds in a creative way? Join us to test your programming, design, and storytelling chops!

A grand prize of $750 and one first prize of $250 will be given away to the best concepts. The expectation for the final product is roughly a 1 to 2 minute cardboard experience (can be film, game, or 3D VR experience) that educates, inspires, and generates awareness of the issue. The demos and presentations will be captured on video and shared with our foundation partners who will choose the winners. Winners will be announced the following week. The winning concepts will be under consideration for further funding and potential use in a gallery of nuclear weapons simulations.

Participants are invited to sign up as teams or as individuals.

 We’ll provide you with:
→ Food (breakfast, lunch, and afternoon snacks), coffee, tea, and energy drinks
→ Space
→  Storytelling and experience design consultants
→ Wifi
→ Content expertise – access to nuclear security experts
→ Google Cardboard (1 per team)
