I released my game 20 days ago, seems would sold 10~30 units per month.

Sadly that's already better than 99.99% of indies.

how does one determine whether it's the game or the marketing that's bad?

or both?

I wish I was around when indie games were niche and underground.

Indie is now a title slapped on things in the same aspect as you would tag a game as FPS or MMORPG. Its a selling point now, and I think that is strange.

It's about time to create a new title , since indie nowadays are big teams pretending to be indie.

Steam Refunds

focus on the first 2h of your game ,make it awesome, put a timer of 2h, when time ticks off, THE END screen, and game shuts down.
you win.

Well... if "make your game awesome" are news to you, you got other problems than Steam refunds.

Do you even try to understand?

And by the way steam is full of game where devs didn't even now that a game have to be awesome, even aaa.

Indeed. And that's why I think Steam Refunds are a good thing, not the next big obstacle of Indie Development. But that's too much derailing, this is better left for the dedicated Refund thread over there.

My guess as to why they've decided to introduce refunds is because they noticed that games either get crazy mileage (200+ hours) or almost none (30 minutes and then quit).

In any case, it's a great thing.

And it's absolutely HILARIOUS that certain developers actually think it's a bad thing.  Make good games and it's not a problem, FFS.

Unless people play the full, good game and then ask for a refund to buy something else and so on and on. Tongue How many would do that? And would the way it's set up allow for that? How does the refund thingy work anyway?

What if the game really is supposed to take 8 hours but someone looked up a speedrun and then ran through the game in 2 hours? :OOOOO
