reminds me of a turn-based nuclear throne, which is quite possibly the best and coolest comparison you could invite
looking forward to this!

This looks great. Just wondering, if you don't like or play this kind of games, why did you made it in the first place ?

This looks like a turn-based Nuclear Throne. A turn-based nuclear Throne ...... I'm throwing my money at the screen but nothing's happening.

Always interesting when a dev does a game in a genre they dislike (upcoming game The Swindle is another example) How did that affect your game design? Basically, how does an Orangepixel turn-based game play?

Dude this looks badass. The turn based nature of it gives it a very unique feel. Kind of somewhere in between nuclear throne and something like steam marines. Those fire pits are wicked too.
I also super respect that you are making a game you like, from a genre you don't typically enjoy. I very much look forward to playing this.

It took me some time to actually get the flow of a turn-based game right, for the game design I think I stuck to the action/arcade stuff I'm used to, but take into accounts that things happen in turns. One example is the floor-flamers, they didn't work with an on/off state (as they would in an arcade game) so I had to add the extra step of "about to go on" so that it becomes a tactical thing to use in a turn-based environment. So it's a weird mix of arcade/turn-based gameplay and it kinda works!

making them better is a bit presumptuous, but I do think I can make one that has a lower barrier to play. Easier control scheme, easier to get into, etc. Basically stripping out the boring stuff that usually keeps me from playing one Anyway, posted this 12 minute video yesterday (without the enhanced light system in place):

Some new eye-candy, and a new gameplay video below. A bunch of new weapons was added this week, few new enemies, and a collection of items. The game is now simply growing until it's done (=I run out of ideas for items and weapons). New gameplay video:

This might finally be a rogue like I can get into! What are you building the game in and what do you use to create your pixel art?

Thanks, I hope it can interest people who, like me, normally don't play turn-based roguelike's (altho I have been playing them since I started developing this, so that's a bonus!) I'm using LibGDX to build the game (cross platform) and Gimp for all my pixelart.
