I couldn't finish NV out of boredom with the quests around the time I reach New Vegas. The choose-your-adventure [main] story may have been more dynamic than F3 but the latter felt more isolating and less campy which was more impactful, though it being the first I played there's some bias. Mind you F3 is certainly flawed but the story more streamlined, less filler it felt (I played both straight) and, though the environments are kind of homogenous in both games, exploration of new areas felt more novel in F3.
Almost everyone goes for good karma the first time around. Which in my case is often the only time around, so 'choices' feel like a moot point for most games (they don't usually matter). I gather that in NV they can alter the game in a significant way. Even so, going around killing indiscriminately would limit some story arcs and amongst other things, so seeing the most out of that angle would mean "evil with restraint" anyway. Speaking of being evil, I remember when F3 was new or on the horizon the devs uploaded a playthrough vid of the path leading up to blowing Megaton to smithereens - it was a pretty convincing way to demonstrate how differently the game could play being evil. But I'm not sure the rest of it would have been much different.
I remember seeing a vid someone uploaded of his character detonating slaves' collars and the dialogues leading to that. It's a bit disturbing.

Well, looks like it's going to be a distracting year for me. New X-Com, new Fallout. Also new FFXIV expansion.
Tempted to dive back into one of the Fallout 3's, now. :/

Why is there still rubble in the streets so long after the nuke dropped? Nobody ever bothered to clean up the road in the town they're living in?

i have to say that, despite my misgivings i am actually semi hyped for this game and will probably buy it at launch.
theres a fuckton of postapocalyptic games out there these days, but in the end fallout's setting is still the most fun and memorable, even with bethsoft's wooden writing. i like that theyre going into a more cartoony direction too, gives me hope for more humor and less grimdork.

I wouldn't buy it near lunch unless they're offering a good preorder bonus. It won't be playable until about two weeks in anyway, because there will inevitably be some game-breaking bugs. Hell, it's being released in November, wait for the inevitable Christmas Steam sale.

Skyrim was, and it wasn't much older. And Skyrim was VERY buggy at lunch. It simply wouldn't work for people with ATI cards of a certain generation, IIRC.
