I'm looking for advice on how to record gameplay footage to make a trailer.

Thanks to steam sales, i bought a video production software, learnt how to use it (somewhat) and now i need to record anything moving on my desktop. Should i seek free software or should i buy something like Fraps or Action! ?

Use a capture card if one is available. If not, use OBS, it's free and open source.

I use camtasia and have had great results. It comes with a full editing suite too which, if not quite Sony Vegas or Adobe premiere, is pretty full featured and has been more than enough for my trailer needs. It's a bit pricey but has a 60 day full feature trial. I prob sound like I'm shilling for them, but it's more that I had poor results with other methods and was glad to finally find it.

i bought Sony Movie Studio 13 Platinum thanks to steam lately so i can't see myself spending money on another video software.

I'll try OBS + sony movie studio and if that doesn't go well i'll try the 60 days trial.

Thanks for the advice ^^
