Do people seriously still use outlets like gamespot for video game information nowadays? I would think the best way to get buzz on your game is on youtube, by convincing someone who is decently popular on youtube to try the game out. That's where most of the indie games that made millions got their spotlight.
agreed, Let's players with a "Let's look at" / "Indie spotlight" like Millbee, NorthernLion and his gang are really good choices.. but keep in mind,(for example) People that usually play City builders/Simulation games won't greatly comment/pick on your RPG platformer.
and when Big time youtubers/Let's players get a hand on your game... you know you're good to go!
most Let's players have their emails posted on their "About" page on their channel/ on their channel banner...
you can give free press releases/game keys there! who will complain on about Free games?
