No joke I always keep a bag of almonds with me when going outside for any longer period. They have a perfect composition of dense energy nutrition in case of emergency hunger and are way cheaper than fast food. (Get the ones branded as baking ingredient, not snacks.)
The fact that they currently help depleting the groundwater reservoir in california is just an added bonus.

I don't think I could with any convenience get alfalfa or beef from the states though, while most almonds sold here afaik originate in califoria

I'm not 100% sure why we should be worrying specifically about California with regards to water tbh. It's part of the world's richest nation and is on it's own one of the world's largest economies. Droughts can hit other places much harder. So why target water usage in California specifically, rather than trying to reduce our water footprint in general?

mainly I just think it would be cute symbol of the consequences of irresponsible use of natural resources (both water and fossil fuels) in a developed country where for once it's the perpetrators who suffer
