Hello all, how to say, I already introduced myself in the compulsory post, so I'll just switch to the subject.
I'm an amateur currently working on a mmorpg game based on minecraft, and we are at the point where we'll start developing the HUD and other parts of the UI.
Here is what we did so far (it's just a plan, don't mind for the shapes, they're not the one I'll do)

I thought to use a style like this (color an ambient wise) :
But in the project we have some kind of iconic element I'd like to add, it's a crystal, a bit like this :

http://imgs.tuts.dragoart.com/how-to-draw-crystals_1_000000020584_5.pngSo now my problem is that I'm kind of stuck cause I try to integrate these crystals in the HUD, but I really don't know how, all the things I do aren't satisfying, I think I tend to make things a bit too complexe, and what I'm looking for is something simple but with things inside so that you can feel it's not plain. So I thought : Ok now I may be missing something, let's ask pros how they do!
So do you have any ideas/tips/advices how to do it?
