Hi all. Sorry for the long absence ... school and all that. The last compo I took part in was the generative comp (http://forums.tigsource.com/index.php?topic=1789.0
Anyway, since I have spring break next week, I'm going to try and enter a game into this compo. Like last time, I'm working on a game where music is very important.
Specifically, it occurs to me that a DJ's setup is a lot like a cockpit ... at least in terms of visuals and interface. So in this game, you will play a DJ who owns a shop where he makes beats and loops for his customers. As the game goes on, you will be able to earn upgrades to your cockpit that will add to the difficulty or change the gameplay style (the first upgrade will be a piano, which is shown in the demo).
In terms of gameplay, it will basically be like Simon. We all remember, Simon, correct? Anyway, you can experience the gameplay yourself in the short demo here: www.thisisnotalabel.com/games/beatsmaster.html
That link goes to a java applet. I am using jGame for this project.
and I'll close with the obligatory screenshots:
