This is incredibly sad news Iwata helped bring so many emotions to gamers across the globe — not just joy, but fear, curiosity, sorrow, anger, pride, compassion and many other feelings that are important for games and all of humanity. RIP

He was one of the few execs who could be really respected: cutting his own salary, basically writing several of Nintendo's core games by himself, and making all these silly videos, really able to just laugh at himself.
Nintendo during his era represented everything good about gaming.

And he made the effort to speak in English! Most other Japanese people in the video game industry use a translator.

Koizumi perhaps?
Nevertheless, this is incredibly sad news. It always sucks to see influential people die so suddenly.

I can't imagine what state Nintendo's staff is in right now. It must be terrible having him die so suddenly. I can only hope that the people who knew him don't take it too hard.

My friend already preached him to me. Sounds like an OK candidate I guess.

Saw an article on Kotaku some time ago that the operation was not very serious and everything was going to be alright with Iwata`s health.
And now these news...

Some sources say Genyo Takeda is also among the front-runners for the presidency of Nintendo.

Very sad news. He pushed for gaming success over business success. A good guy.

Koizumi is an amazing game designer and still very focused on that area, it's very unlikely that he become president but it would be a big loss to have him stop working as a designer. Same to Miyamoto that recently decided to step down and dedicate more time to game development. Genyo Takeda is the most likely candidate, apparently he and Miyamoto are already temporarily sharing Iwata's duties.

This whole things reminds me of the time I learned about the death of Gunpei Yokoi. Nintendo just keeps on getting blow after blow from fate.
