Having seen some interesting controversy over the use or non use of game pads on PC I thought it would be interesting for all to set up a poll and get some stats

Of course I do! I have XBOX 360, a Game one, and my first gamepad ever, a Thrustmaster Dual Analog, with the weird two lower back buttons...

I have over 20 controllers of various makes/models that work with my PC. But I am developing games for a living so I need them for checking compatibility and such. You'd probably get better poll results from a less developer orientated gaming forum.

I use a DualShock 4 and InputMapper. InputMapper basically maps DS4 to Xbox 360 controller.
Plus, the touch pad controls the mouse cursor, which is kind of nice. When you start a game with the mouse cursor at the center of the screen, you can just move the cursor away using the touch pad, without having to reach for the mouse.

I have one but I rarely use it these days because the sticks are broken (and causes some games to mess up). I should get around getting a replacement. Also no, it's not an XInput controller.

I have a USB NES controller and SNES controller I use for emulated classics and then I use my XBOX 360 controller or PS3 controller which I use for most everything else, sans fighting games which I use one of my PS3 PDP "Versus Fighting Pads" (essentially a SEGA Genesis controller with an 8-direction analog "d-pad"). I could use one of my shitty GameStop PS3 controllers, but I save those for nieces and nephews with destructive tendencies or to dole out passive aggressive punishments unto guests who've almost worn out their welcome. They're kind of like this.

I have a Xbox 360 and a PS3 controller that I can use for games on my computer, but I am happy to use keyboard and mouse too. All depends on the game I am playing and what I find comfortable. Nothing wrong with options.

TL;DR: Bought my gamepad for Dark Souls, realized that gamepads are actually pretty sweet, now use it all the time.

8-direction analog "d-pad"
Am I the only one who would prefer to replace all sticks with analog D-pads? I'm not a fan of sticks, period, I find them cumbersome and slow to use.

I'm not with you on that at least. I noticed my girlfriend uses the D-pad on her 3DS for Pokémon after I had found myself using the "stick". I prefer sticks.

3DS stick is pretty bad tho. For me it depends on the precision and versatility I required.

I might use a D-pad for Tetris or some other puzzle game like that, but that's about it. No problem using a stick even for that tho. I think the circle pad on the 3DS is just fine. It was a positive surprise.

To add some real controversy to this tho: I use a magic trackpad for my PC (not for games, for which I have gamepads, but for PC'ing) — and I never want to go back to a regular mouse!

i use a dualshock 3 under windows using xbox controller emulation
use it for p much all games i play other than strategy/sim games (i use my laptop's trackpad for those). feels more natural to me for most action games other than like twitchy shooters, but i don't really play those so

I mostly use my PS3 controller for dev because I can charge it in the USB port, but I prefer the 360 controller ergonomically and use it when I play games but not otherwise to save the batteries. Except when I need to test rumble or trigger sensitivity because the driver for the PS3 controller doesn't support those.
