I guess it looks fairly well for the limited colour palette. Had a chance to practice dithering and walking animations.
There is still room for improvements when it comes to the animations on the character, but I'll most likely polish it in the next couple of days. But I'd really like some feedback and possible tips for anything that comes to mind.

Your background looks kind of awful.
It's a mess and easy to tell how you made it.
By drawing different streaks of color and haphazardly altering them.
I imagine you just got lazy when faced with the prospect of such a large image.
I do the exact same thing though so I don't really have any advice.
Sorry.

I like what you did with the dithering on the man's side;
It looks very stylish.

It's hard to tell which way he is walking.
His right leg (the left one) is pretty well animated except that it stops when stepping.
Watch where the feet are and try to make them move every frame.
Because if this was moving, it would appear that his feet are dragging/sliding on the ground.
His other leg... it's hard to tell what its even doing.
It's like wobbling, then doing a kick.
It should be doing basically what the other leg is doing, except at the opposite time.
Like
Imagine if this was just a gif of his right leg.
The frames are 12345678
You'd want the other leg's animation to be offset by half the animation.

Here's some numerical legs.
12345678
56781234

I don't know how else to explain it.
I hope you understand what I'm trying to say.
That's all my tips/advice.
Hope it helps.

Thank you for the extensive feedback! Also, thanks for the tips.

Now, about the background:
When I think of a space background, I think of Risk of Rain's ending screen. The thing is that it really is chaotic in a way, but I still can't reproduce it. It's layered colours, but they breach into eachother.

As I said, the walking animation is probably my weakest point when animating, but those numerals you included will definitely come in handy.
The problem with the right leg probably comes from me hand-drawing each frame of each leg, or if there is a repeating frame.

Thanks again!

I don't really get what you're pointing out, but I used GraphicsGale for that, so I don't really have a big choice of brushes. I think I used a single pixel one and a star-shaped 5 pixel one for most things.

sky is super obviously done by just using 5 px brush
The way risk of rain is done is by probably making an outline and filling it
it should not be that obvious
also i dont know whats the point of adding shade and then dithering on top of it. AA on his chest looks weird konsidering its only on chest.

The way I did it is by doing some waves of colours and filling them with the corresponding colour, then I draw some triangle shapes and tendrils, and then adding some blobs and other things to distract from the contour.
I guess you're right about using the regular brush, but for most things it would be only a slight difference in my opinion.

About the AA, I didn't do it as AA. I wanted to add some depth with the darker gray and dithering. But it's mostly for detail. I'll probably remove some of it.
