Well, it's not really that it's a "meme", because I would react to stuff like this ten years ago too.
I'd describe it in terms of how it would become a fad to say that something is bad or whatever and exaggerate it because everyone else did it too. That nobody would actually consider the things individually and come to an honest conclusion.
Cage isn't that awful, but it's definitely a "thing" to say that he is.
