@Cellusious I really like the palettes you're working with, especially in your last couple posts.
@swordofkings128 Thanks! Love your nature scene. How did you get the pixelated look with your 3d models? Is it a shader or post-processing of some sort?
Thank you! Here's a quick explanation:
Photoshop has an option to index the colors of an image. You can define the amount of colors and choose how it intersperses the colors. There's dither(or pattern) which just alternates between colors to get what appears to be a smooth blend, and there's diffusion which approximates colors without using a grid like dither does.
Now, pattern dithering looks better, but the issue you'll have is if the image is scaled down even slightly, there can be lines of colors, so I opted to give all images in the game the diffusion treatment. I'm going for mid 90s pre-rendered graphics like Myst, or any other game of that time, and one of the most iconic parts to that "style" is weird patterns of colors, or a bunch of light color dots... that's what helps make it feel authentic.
I made a soda can! :D
Sheesh Tennis, that's beautiful! ;_; Whenever I see your models, I can't help but admire both your 3d and 2d expertise.
Oh and xrg, awesome dagger + tutorial. Very informative on blender's paint tools! Thank you so much for making a tut- if it weren't for people like you, those who want to spread knowledge, I wouldn't have any idea what I'm doing.
edit: I'm reluctant to show too much of the ship, but here's a shot of some of the pier with the props I made today and yesterday-
