Thanks guys! I had a lot of fun with this guy, I think after I finish my freelance work I'm going to do some more 3d renditions of my favorite indie game characters.
hurry along now

hurry along now Hehe, I know which character I want to do next but first I have to finish some hi res work for my portfolio so I can find a job. Sadly the only freelance work I've had is from the same studio that just laid me off, strangely enough.

I love those velvet shaders (the one that gives Galaxy-like highlights to the character).

It's really just a fake Fresnel term where you highlight based on the result of an inverse N dot Eye to some power. At least that's how I do it.

I was having some fun coming up with a crystal like effect for the staff of the character I'm working on (the lizard guy I posted earlier): And here's the actual geometry:

Looking pretty good, love the second one, but what's with that yellow circle on his chest? I think a manly tuft of chest hair would fit better.

It was supposed to be a pendant or necklace of some sort, but I agree that a tuft of hair (or at least a hint of it) would be better.

Thought I'd post an update to my lizard guy from earlier: Still got to finish his hands when I can find the free time.

Wow nice job Chris! Did you author the scale texture manually or generate it somehow? I like the off-color scales and the larger and less frequent rougher looking ones.

Here's a view of just the normal map: For the scales, I took a picture of snake scales that I got off google, tweaked it in PS then set it as a stencil in Mudbox so I could paint them on quite easily.
