hello.
here's a game called "twinland":
http://www.yoyogames.com/games/show/71848
it's a retro-styled exploration game inspired by "castlevania" series.

you control a fat office clerk who fell asleep at his working desk and got teleported to another dimension.
there are four spells (each with three levels of power), five helmets (think "armor"), six bosses (two of them optional), character growth system, different power-ups and items - everything you expect from traditional metroidvania.

The game felt surprisingly good. There're 2 major things that annoyed me though:

Graphics: Although there were some good bits (like the falling leaves, they were sure cool!), the graphical outlook consists of many different styles and techniques, which makes the game look a bit unfinished, like some of the graphics were placeholders (the biggest thing that made the graphics look strange was the thing that some of them had black outlines, but not all). Also the effects are quite minimal.

The other thing was that the game felt overall quite unpolished. The helmet I found doesn't stay on the players head, but instead follows the player, a bit late, which makes it look quite weird. The map could have some sort of background, it's a bit too hard to be seen currently. The projectiles the enemies shoot don't always come from the middle of the enemy, but instead from some corner, which looks quite weird.

The engine felt overall quite stabile, but you could spend some time on just fixing these small glitches, getting rid of them would help the game a lot.

Hard. having to rewatch the beginning over and over when I died was annoying. are there save points, or am I just naive and didn't read the instructions on how to save?

sorry for belated answer, i was quite busy for a couple of weeks...

2PureQuestion:
the games becomes easier when you gain several levels. also there are savepoints, the look like stands with big books on them.

2Hempuli:
thanks for feedback. i'll definitely provide some background for the map.
considering helmits... all of them are too big for the hero. it looks fun when they slip while character jumps (or so i thought, anyway Smiley)
i'll also check enemy projectiles, though it's kind of strange...

The game could be pretty good, but I couldn't get much further than the VERY FIRST bit. Just because I didn't really know where to go.

May I suggest you introduce yourself to the forum? This is to make sure that people won't think of you as someone who only came here to advertise his game.

2Michael Yamada

go right, then enter the red brick building. in the dungeon/laboratory keep going right, don't get into water yet. soon you will find a man with glasses and white robe. destroy him to get an item that allows double jump. a few new areas will open up then.

also i wrote some stuff about myself in "introduce yourself" thread ))

Because this is a very usual bug in the program I use, it doesn't look fun but instead buggy for me. :D
