After the overwhelming success of our art game festival Screenshake
www.screenshake.be earlier this year, our noprofit indie game collective, The House of Indie
http://twitter.com/thehouseofindie, in collaboration with The Cronos Group, once again brings international game developing talent to Antwerp. Between August 31 and September 6 we organize Headstart
http://headstart.institute : an international summer school for independent game developers.
From Monday through Friday, 30 young developers and 10 experienced mentors from over 10 different countries will come together in DE Studio in Antwerp for an intensive program of lectures and workshops. There they'll be taught essential knowledge and skills to avoid all the pitfalls of an early career. Topics covered range from design to programming to music, over aesthetics and marketing up to legal advice.
Some of the experienced mentors who will assist participants with advice and assistance, are Auriea Harvey and Michaël Samyn of Belgian studio Tale of Tales, Adriaan de Jongh and Erin ‘LivelyIvy’ Robinson.
In the weekend, the participants will move to the Farmers' Tower to put their newly-gained insights into practice at a 48h game jam.
During the seven days of the summer school, participants and mentors alike will eat, drink, sleep and learn together. Headstart is unique in its holistic approach and focus on informal knowledge transfer and networking opportunity. The House of Indie with this initiative aims to boost the professional success rate of young, driven indie developers in the extremely challenging field of game development.
We still have some places available.
In terms of transport, Antwerp is a half-hour train ride from Brussels, which is basically the heart of Europe and has more connecting flights than you can shake a stick at.
