Self-promotion eventually (warning: the rest of this paragraph is about marketing). I'm making them because I want build a following and establish a relationship with potential players by regularly uploading interesting/entertaining content and interacting with them. Please don't flame me. I couldn't think of anything else.

The channel itself can contain literally anything as long as it's loosely related to gaming and entertaining. So suggest away!

I was thinking about making tutorials, but I don't know if there's a real interest there. If you want, you can just post the types of videos that you enjoy watching and why

To make popular youtube videos, you'll need to be extremely patient and never show that you're forcing yourself into doing it.
I think that the most important is that the viewer can sense that you're genuinely doing with passion.
You'll be surprised to see how easy it is for viewers to sense that you're not enjoying doing your videos.

And time, you might need to be doing videos for a whole year without getting any succes, unless you get lucky at some point (for example FNAF did boost a lot of youtubers). constancy, consistency and hard work will lead to more and more viewers.

Awesome advice. Thanks pal! I notice that too when I watch videos on YouTube. There are usually two types of youtubers: A) the ones who talk TO the camera, B) the ones who talk AT the camera.

The a-type are actually talking to themselves but it feels like they're speaking directly to YOU. You don't feel like you're watching a video. You feel as though you're actively participating in the experience with them. E.g. the let's players who say something to the effect of "Whoa! Holy crap guys, DID YOU JUST SEE THAT? Wow, that was crazy." NiceB is a good example of the a-type (although his language does make me a bit uneasy at times).

The b-type tend to take on more of a TV personality. It feels more disconnected. They know that you're watching, but they don't really address you directly or speak directly to you as the viewer.

The videos that are truly difficult to watch, though, are ones where you can tell that the person who made the video has no idea what he/she is doing. This is especially brutal in tutorial/instructional videos.

If you go in without really wanting to do something, you won't thrive. Any major supporters you might find will look for support from you. This is why you should answer why? You should already know the why, and you can repeat it every time you get thousands of viewer complaints.

At this point I'd recommend finding a smaller audience.
