record yourself trying to lift things much too heavy for you to lift
be cruel to animals and laugh a lot
cut rapidly between various contorted faces and annoying sounds you are capable of making
insult your parents
instigate fights with socially inept people
set the thumbnail image to barely censored pornography
harass fast food workers
recite family guy
throw eggs at your furniture
record 900 hours of raw minecraft footage and upload it as a 9000 hour video
fall over while trying to do a sexy dance like wot they have in music videos
swear and yell at mundane things
beg viewers ceaselessly for virtual metrics of worth

If you go in without really wanting to do something, you won't thrive. Any major supporters you might find will look for support from you. This is why you should answer why? You should already know the why, and you can repeat it every time you get thousands of viewer complaints.

At this point I'd recommend finding a smaller audience.

I erased something important while I edited this. You should define a smaller target audience, making it smaller than everybody, then go observe and converse.  This is a bit more direct and likely to be more attainable than saying every potential player will watch your videos.  I guess your opening would be something like "I'd like to find people to watch my videos. [summary] [picture]" and continue to ask nicely, while making videos to spark an interest until requests come in. This concludes my expertise about advertising and audience pandering fanservice.

also, bite exceptionally spicy peppers while on camera and schadenfreude will make your video go viral.

Also don't record footage of Nintendo games.

or alternatively, do record footage of nintendo games, get it taken down, make some long rant videos about it (be sure to mention that you're planning to file a class action lawsuit against nintendo which ofc you won't actually do) and gain a large following for "sticking it to the man"

idk if this is the right place to put this but the youtube personality thumbnail aesthetic is maybe the least appealing aesthetic in the world to me

you know, the one with the headshots of the stars or kids Reacting making weird faces with text all askew with a bold outline on a bright background and a stock picture of the subject of the video

it's the kind of thing that strong bad would put together as a joke in a sbemail or something

I’m surprised Derek Yu's tigsource guest post with Hulk Hogan on building a developers YouTube channel hasn’t been posted up already. It got taken off the front page of tigsource for some reason I’m guessing its to do with the racist rant he did that got taken down but I managed to salvage it through a achieve site.

Hulk Hogan’s guide to building an Indie YouTube channel

Contents

1 : Choosing your Video Style
2 : Engaging a Community & Building One
3 : PR and Controversial
4 : Cool Down & Lifestyle

Introduction
Five Small Steps

WO! WO! WO! How you all doing you tigsource Hulksters, this is the incredible Hulk Hogan - the WWF champion of the world. I’m six foot seven and my YouTuber subscriber counts up to the heaven. But the Hulksters still needs some basic principles in order to entertain the internet stage and keep the hulk from getting the red negatives subscription rate… Like that would happen - And it should be important to you because making a Hulkalevel™ YouTube channel like mine with my principles you'll feel better and you'll feel stronger, cause when your tag team fighting on the internet ring against guys like that no good double crossing Total-Biscuit, and that streamer Nami Rami Ismail chasing me around and trying to take my belt away it'll give me the confidence that I can depend on little guys like you to help my YouTube channel out when I’m in trouble. Just like a good tag team partner you can help out the Hulkster if you get your YouTube channel in shape.

Everyone should get a YouTube channel and that’s no joke.

Even if you’re not a professional YouTube -wrestler like me. Let’s say you’re a business man or a student or even a school teacher. I’d still set up my own YouTube channel and I’d still stick to these principles. You know that saying, a strong YouTube channel a strong mind? Well the Hulkster knows Paul Eres said that but let me tell you something daddyo’. Those are two things you should develop in your dev-cycle. Pay attention to your analytics man, and study hard - read your books - and do your homework, and when it comes to building a strong YouTube channel well that takes time. I hope that this Hulk web 4.0 YouTube guide will help you get started. But there’s something you little Hulksters have to understand. Making a YouTube channel is serious business – it’s not some little game. I didn’t say it wasn’t fun it’s just not a game. Never taunt your YouTube community, don’t goof around with bad uploads. Your community has real people on the other end and they are not your toys.

Hogan’s Basic starting tips

Number one Take it easy when you first start uploading.

It takes time to find a style you like, look at PewDiePie. When he first started he was just like the Hulkster, he didn’t say a word and that’s fine because he entered the ring – and that’s all it takes at the beginning. Once you have a found a format that is easy for you to make and is enjoyable slowly make more videos and experiment at your own pace. So its ok to not feel confident at the beginning that’s a part of the process.

Number two Dress properly when you first make videos.

Wear something loose, something that can stretch and always wear sneakers that can help protect your feet and stop yourself from slipping.

Number three Make sure you are in a room that is quiet and you wont be disturbed

A place where you don’t have any noisy fans, can rearrange equipment easily, and wont trip over easily. Make sure your editing area is safe and free of hazards. If you live with your mum & Dad, let them know before hand if you are recording anything so that they’ll know not to interrupt you while your recording.

Number four Think of a reoccurring schedule to edit in.

Place down the day/days every week where you can produce your videos, this is good for your community so they can anticipate your next video into their schedule, and good for you for getting into a routine. Maybe it’s before your breakfast, after school, or after your chores around the house. Whenever the time is, make sure it’s enough to produce a good solid edit. Remember though editing a video before sleep can cause you stay awake longer at night, and editing after a meal is bad for your body. Always wait an hour after you eat.

Number Five The most important point - get an adult to help you out.

You'll listen to this point because your smart, and smart people listen to the hulk. When you are setting up your YouTube channel make sure that you get an adult to help you out, they can check out everything, and make sure it’s safe for you to use. I want to make sure that none of you Hulksters out there gets hurt, gets doxxed, or bumps their head or anything like that. Its important that your parents explain to you the rules of YouTube.

And finally after all my years of banging and clanging, I’ve always found it’s fun to film and edit with a partner. I’ve been editing alone a lot, but I’ve found that the time went by a lil’ faster and the work out seemed a lil’ easier, not only will you have someone to talk to but you'll have someone there to watch you and check out on you man, and make sure your editing right and funny. But most importantly there'll be someone there to give you encouragement and keep pushing you. You'll know there were times I was filming and recording, and cutting and I was slowly feeling like I couldn’t keep going, I wasn’t getting tired - believe it or not man I was just getting lazy. But then my buddy said come on hulk keep it up your looking good man just a couple more remember daddy you’re at the editing studio. Let me tell you little dudes, my muscles started pumping and my heart started pounding and I felt stronger, and I kept on going on & on and on on-on-on!, and then the video was finished – that’s why my YouTube channel is huge. Cause I don’t quit and neither should you little Hulksters.

Now about this Hulkamania web 4.0 tigsource guide.
This guides divided into 4 sections, editing, community engagement, PR and controversial management, and cool down you know. Its real important that you read the instructions carefully and follow along with the post. It’s important to put the poster up nearby so you can look at it. This will guarantee you get the most out of your YouTube channel. If you’re going to do this YouTube guide YOU MIGHT AS WELL DO IT RIIIGHT daddy. You might also want to keep a log book of your videos so you can track your progress. So you can look back at your previous editing methods and see how you have improved, and judge when its time to try out some new techniques like 3d models or music.

// Section one Editing and picking your content.

When you are creating your video its important to think about what style you going for
People like humour, tutorials, devlogs, reviews and informative videos, these are the five biggest styles that can help you get your green subscriber count going up-up-and up. Ill explain each little Hulksters in case you didn’t know.

Humour is when the person takes on a character or tells jokes in their video about the topic there talking about. It could be other peoples games, or just general topics. The hulk says away from this because video games are NO JOKE.

Tutorials is when people tell others how to do things or how they did things. The hulk always remembers to record his moves such as the Leg Drop or when he was developing Super Meat Boy to record time lapses so he can recreate it so that those with Hulkamania can learn the moves I have learned. Then I re-edit those into a montage so that viewers don’t have to go through the weeks of banging and clanging training and can understand the process in a few minutes. But remember to get your parent’s permission first before filming yourself and putting it on the net.

Devlogs are when fans of your games want to see demonstrations of your game that you cant show well in text or are not ready for the big arena. My tag team partner Wolf-fires devlog series of Overgrowth are a great demonstration of how to do this. By giving out a demo fans become invested in your game, they get stricken by the Hulkamania and they want to see what the hulk will come up with next - you can show a video that goes around the buggy bits of features that haven’t fixed yet and show it off before its ready for the public. As long as I work hard and edit, and say no to drugs I can create videos that make my YouTube community to come back every time.

Reviews, reviews are when you give your opinions about various games. This is where you talk about what the game did right and what makes it unique and cool. The hulk says that you should be careful as people are awesome and life is great, however a mean or uninformed comment can cause a lot of people to get hurt. And if you were to make something that isn’t quite right. If I were in those persons shoes I would embrace it and Id celebrate it. As making something for other people is always neat. Negativity and Hulkamania are two things that dont go together.

Informative videos This is when you are talking about topics that you know a lot of. Techniques on your game that are revolutionary? I want to hear it, or what about the inspirations and technology’s that you are drawing your ideas from. How your game is mimicking a old C64 pallet, or how your game relates to the Unity game dev community. If you can present the ideas in a way that’s smart and informative that other people can use. I would want more of that guy. Remember that a smart mind learned mind and a YouTube channel go together. The best wrestlers are the ones that can teach.

The important thing is it to think – how am I improving the lives of my viewers? Am I making them laugh or teaching them something new? If your still not getting the subscriber counts you want – it might because you are not offering something that is worthwhile to someone else, it takes a big man to look at the mirror and see that something aint right – buts that’s how you get to be like the hulk.

Many people think that being a wrestling and game designer is all about being the best. But lets look at the big picture. It’s not the wrestlers that count but the little Hulksters who cheer me on at the ring. Being a wrestler should be about reaching out to others and inspiring them to do great things. Dusty Rhodes was my hero, and he was my hero because he wrestle a mean game daddy. But he would also spend his time hanging and banging with his fans after the show. I tag team in the ring, and I also tag team outside the arena with the fans. If at the end of the day the only person who feels good is me. Then the show don’t work. It’s the fan who help set up the stage, without them it aint possible to put on a good show.

Allow Hulksters to request/vote what video you'll make next and put their comments in the video. This allows them to feel a part of the show cause they are influencing it and playing a role.

Do commission works on twitter

Do group events like stream events where you can talk to fans live

Do group game like Terria, Minecraft or TF2 – so you can play with your fans!

Reference current games. Little easter eggs you know that type of thing.

Make special Themed videos for Christmas and Halloween

Build a forum, or subreddit so that people can meet other Hulksters and share their excitement with other Hulksters.

Respond to questions or comments in the video, being on a video on the other side of the computer monitor or on the big screen can make people forget that you are a real person. By showing yourself in the arena and outside the arena as a cool guy in the YouTube comment sections people will get to know you as a rule human. I never want to be like brad pit - there’s no glass walls in the hulks world and your smart and smart people listen to the hulk. Say hello, answer questions, reply back to emails and letters! AND NEVER SAY NO TO A FAN!

Keeping the little Hulksters happy and ready for more means that the hulk can play a mean game, and they'll be a crowd wanting for more.

Don’t forget to talk to Journalists, journalists can make or break you so its important to always be polite in interviews or press meetings – that doesn’t mean you can hold yourself back, because when the hulk gets a question – he gives it his all. Nothing is held back – if I want to challenge Totalbiscuit to the ring Im going to let him know. Being polite just means that you be respectful to the interviewer, no need to fight those who aren’t even playing in the ring to begin with.

The hulk is always for positivity, however sometimes people like to bring the hulk down as a low way to take my title. That’s not cool, and sometimes the hulk has to step up to the challenge. If someone is bringing you down; tell them what you think- and give them the hulk leg drop while your at it! Hulksters will look up to you for it and you'll be inspiring to them and you'll teach them as well that it’s not cool for other people to bring you down and to stand up themselves like the hulk does.
When other wrestlers do mean tactics against me, I know the fans of those bozos will look down at their wrestler then look at my videos. And they'll see that I am more deserving of the title and they'll follow my side of the ring. Never let anyone keep you down you hear daddyo’?

Cool down – keeping life in check so that you can hit it hard.

Friends and family.

Sometimes it’s great being in the YouTube community, you have people who

Now even the hulk in his peak Hulkness can’t compete in the ring forever, what you see in the show is only possible because when the lights turn off and I collect the wwf belt, I have an extensive team that helps me repair all of the damage that’s done in the ring.
look up to you, and all the cool Hulksters that are your peers that you have a comradely with. But when you’re being the hulk 24/7 it can be tough. I’ve seen a whole lot of good wrestlers who were great in the ring lose their friends and loved ones because they were spending their whole life competing. And once your relationships fail – that’s when you can see those wrestlers start to fail in the ring. Its giving your life 100% when at home its in the ice zone. Divorce hits hard, and sometimes sure the wife isnt so hot for that guy. But Ive seen a lot of wife’s been neglected and as a result they divorce – and divorce takes a lot out of a man. Remember to communicate and explain – keep your love ones and bring them along with the ride – just because you’re a wrestling YouTube channel doesn’t mean that your loved ones can’t come a bit of the way with you. Set aside some special time with your loved ones so they know that they are still #1 a part of your life.

Organise events in and out of the ring
Remember to call Mum & friends – let her know how your doing. Organise parties so that you can catch up with multiple friends at once. The hulk says that if you can party at home, then you can thrash at the ring knowing that all your friends at home are watching along. If Im travelling overseas, no worrys! My cellphone is always handy so I can talk to anyone in between sets.

Keep a range of hobbies.

The hulk has hobbys in order to keep him balanced, and allow him to make a wide array of friends. Sometimes it’s the things that you learn outside the ring that can make the biggest difference in the ring.

Start stretching and low intensity exercise
Being a professional YouTube channel requires that you do a lot of sitting. Which means that your back and organs need to move about in order to work healthy. The hulk stretches 2 times a day and does some light swimming in order to make sure that his organs rearrange themselves in the proper way. Injury’s are no joke – and can take you out of the game. Ive seen many of my friends say that stretching is for girls. Well I say don’t listen to them and listen to the hulk! Cause that’s what smart people do daddy-o! Stretching allows you to edit longer, and stay editing.

Take a break every 30minutes
As well as helping your mind be crystal clear and keep your back straight and strong, takin a break allows you to think better, and have great ideas. I would take breaks after a big problem or didn’t know what to say and it was in the break time that the hulk had his best ideas. Resting is work and should be seen as part of the working process. Its cool to rest – don’t listen to those no good wrestlers who are always pushing themselves cause you cant push forever. I’m not saying don’t push it cause the hulk pushes it daddyo’. I’m saying resting is part of the process. So I don’t want to see you forgetting that. Get snoozing!

Eat healthy and take your vitamins!
I see my friends working hard at it. They be following all of the hulk principles – but in the end the most important step is eating healthy. When you eat healthy and take your vitamins those go inside your body and into your mind and muscles. When your Filming those vitamins are moving your body so the best vitamins and diet that you can put will be put into your work. So a mean diet means a mean game. And a bad diet without vitamins is a bad game – you getting it little Hulksters? The game is made in the kitchen.

Alright little Hulksters you did good today. Remember the starting tips – start slow. Experiment a little and in no time you should have a pumpin’ YouTube channel like me

He's talking about this fucking shit.

What annoys me more about Youtube personalities than anything is that it's super obvious that the people aren't there for the content, they're just there for the person that surrounds it. Essentially Let's-Play and those reaction channels are just glorified vloggers. They're all part of this gross "Youtuber" circle as well. Youtube hasn't changed that much. Google's been trying to make it more commercialized but I doubt that will ever succesfully happen because most people just don't take them seriously.

Youtube personalities are just the next generation of celebrity culture (literally, because youtubers' main audience is kids and teens). What's interesting is that celeb culture seems to increasingly shift from actors, musicians, politicians etc. to people who are simply "famous for being famous". most popular youtubers fall under that.

When I look at the gossip mags at the grocery store, 50% of what they write is still about the Swedish royal family, and I guess "famous for being royal" is not much better, heh.

Constitutional monarchy is basically an elaborate TV show that is funded by taxes, but Kung Carl Gustaf is a pretty funny guy to me so I don't mind it too much.

special for being famous rather than famous for being special yeah. (although I think this actually peaked with the reality show stars of over a decade ago. new celebs I can think of largely have or do something special.)

re: monarchy: our monarch is a funny and mostly inoffensive guy but I'd rather have him as my wacky neighbour or something than head of state. Holding on to it is a pretty bad "cosmetic" democratic issue and kinda embarrassing tbh.

the pro strat is abolishing monarchy but still cashing in on your glamorous monarchic past. half of austria's tourism industry is based on that.
