It's 8 o' clock. You're at the SUPER-MEGA-GAME ARCADE. You've got a shitload of quarters. Your friend is ready. You quickly insert a coin into the coin slot. You're ready to play...

In this TOTALLY AWESOME game, you control a SUPER-COOL football mech, trying to kick/punch/bodyslam the ÜBER-NICE ball into your opponents goal!!! With TOTALLY NEW RAGDOLL TECHNOLOGY, you can perform lots of ULTRA-NEAT moves! And also, there are no boring rules! That's right, you can KICK your OPPONENT in his FREAKIN' HEAD! And to top it all off, you get a score counter to prove your worth as the ULTIMATE SUPER COCKPIT FOOTBALL FIGHTER!

What you need to know:
  • Super Cockpit Football Fighters was made in Blender.
  • You need a friend to play this the proper way(i.e. the fun way)
  • It's TOTALLY COOL, RAD, and EXTREMELY AWESOME.

It's a bit annoying that when player 1 scores, the ball is moving to the left when it reappears, and when player 2 scores, it just falls down without any X axis.

My foot is stuck. Sad

Otherwise, the concept is brilliant and the game is awesome! I just played it with a friend. It might be useful if there were a score display.

Huh, weird. I thought there was a score display. I'm looking into that right now.

EDIT: I've fixed the bug. The first post will be updated.

As for the foot getting stuck, I think that's a quirk with the Blender Game Engine. I'll look into it to see if there's anything I can do, though.

I *could* call the game finished now, but IMO it's a little too basic.

ATM, this is my TO-DO list for the next big update:

  • Blood
  • Sound
  • Textures(grass, sky, possibly players?)

However, it'd be nice to have some ideas for expanding the game further.

So I ask you, members of TIGSource; how can I make this game more awesome?

This game is totally rad. I sat here giggling while my football players flew into the sky. ;o

As for upgrades on making it a better experience? Blood/impacts would be cool, as would impact sounds for hitting the ball I think. Maybe an over-the-top 'GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL' announcement? Background music?

I think some effort with adding sound would go a long way here.

Uploaded a gameplay sampler. I FRAPS'd a 1v1 with my friend who was over, so those who want to see what the game plays like without downloading, check the video for an idea.

genericuser, I have a few suggestions for you to consider:

  • Find a way to ensure the ball can't get stuck in the corner above the goalposts. This could be done through adding a curve, some invisible collision, or adding a slight angle to the existing edge.
  • Add some music and small sound effects. Keep it goofy IMHO.
  • Add some minor customization options for the player. Allowing for name entry would be nice, so it's not always PLAYER 1 and PLAYER 2. I don't know how your models are set up, but if it's an easy addition, a color picker would be nice.
  • Add a delay for the new soccer ball spawning. Try 3 seconds and see how it feels. If you watch the video, you'll notice that a lot of times after being scored on, I'd hit the newly spawned ball before the enemy scorer had a chance to recover and it gives me an easy goal. 3 seconds of recovery time might be a good thing.
  • I think 15 minutes in Photoshop working on that backdrop would help a lot, visually. Maybe make it look a bit more like an arcade cabinet, too?

And a couple of stretch items for me to dream about:

  • Gamepad Support: Just to make it easier than cramming around a keyboard.
  • Online Multiplayer: Hey, I had to say it.

I love this game and the concept; having a lot of fun with it. I hope you iterate on your current version and if you need some help with art, give me a shout and I'll see what I can do.

Keep it up!

I *could* call the game finished now, but IMO it's a little too basic.

nooo its already awesome but theres much more you could implement!
i joined the forum pnly to comment on this game lol
heres a few ideas:

1) dont count all goals the same. if a player scores with:
his foot - 2 pts
head - 3 pts
body or hand - 1 pt
if he scores in his own net - 2 pts for the other player

2) speaking of nets - maybe add some nets to the goal. maybe one net could be blue and the other one red

3) joystick support?

4) 2 vs 2 mode with a bigger pitch of course

5) if you need menu music i will gladly make you some

Hand Shake Left :D Hand Shake Right

Kibble, thank you for uploading that.

BTW; I've updated Blender to version 2.48a which, surprisingly, actually works! Hopefully, this will allow me to do...cool stuff.  Tongue

I'm not really sure about doing scoring by last limb used, as part of the fun, IMO, is being able to pull off insane goals with no penalties.

I'm not sure if Blender allows me to pull this off. It'd be a nice touch, though.  Shrug

3) joystick support?

I just found out about the Joystick actuator in Blender, so this might very well be possible.

Depends on whether I can add joysticks.  Undecided

I think all of those suggestions are doable. Well, except online multiplayer. Physics over TCP/IP frightens and confuses me.  Epileptic

Customization sounds a little harder than the other suggestions, and might take some more time, but it's sounds like a Pretty Cool Thing™ to have in the game.

oh but those arent penalties, theyre more like little bonuses
i mean this way it would be even more fun, trying to score a goal with a bloody ragdoll player's head
and its always more fun when a game demands some skill from the players

oh well try playing and imagine that its better to score with your head or legs/feet and you might agree with me :]

ok and

anyway i will probably make some silly footy music tomorrow and send it to you

A new update arrives!

Download Super Cockpit Football Fighters v0.3

New stuff in this one:

  • A short countdown before the ball is dropped
  • A reset button (F5)
  • Some measures to prevent the ball from getting stuck at the goalposts
  • A "proper" README
  • Basic/placeholder sounds (not very goofy/arcade-y ATM)

* genericuser finally found some time to work on this again

Download Super Cockpit Football Fighters v0.4

New stuff this time:

  • Music is now supported.
  • The .dll-files have been packed together with BPPlayer
  • Textures (sky, ground, screen border)
  • New opening screen

To put your own music in the game
, just place a song(in .OGG format) inside the game folder, and rename it "song.ogg". You can try this out with the Benny Hill theme. Hand Thumbs Up Left Wink

I hope I'm not violating too much copyright here...

EDIT: It looks like it freaks out if the directory path is too long. If the game crashes when you run it, try moving it to a different folder, like "C:/SCFF"

I'm working on it  Smiley

(I just figured out a good way to do that, and also add blood at the same time.  Evil )

This game is totally amazing, but:

  • I couldn't get the last version to work, and
  • The second-to-last version glitched amazingly. I was flying upwards with the blue guy, nothing fancy, when he got stuck; then I flew above him with the red guy (I don't have a friend to play it with right now) when the seizure started!

Also, I'm against the addition of blood. It's doesn't add to the comedy.
