Suppose you had an action filled platformer with 13 worlds to explore, a character who's description is vague enough to justify merely one truth: You alone are the good guys, and puzzles that are devious yet consistently logical. Well, I'd say you'd have the makings of a decent action platformer. But add to this upgradeable stats and spells, a tractor beam to manipulate objects, epic battles against bosses that belong in a Lovecraftian nightmare and you have The cleaner I yield to you, The Cleaner (7MB) Darthlupi's other games.

The Cleaner is pretty sweet. I can't believe the whole thing was made in Game Maker.
I should probably get around to beating it one of these days.

Wow, The Cleaner is amazing! I can't believe I've spent the last couple of hours playing only this game - and I'm still not finished. I'm usually not into simple shooters like this I guess, probably try out all spells and that's it. But apparently The Cleaner got a nearly perfect balance of giving you the ability to upgrade your character, show you new environments, introduce you to new enemies and of course and let you fight huge bosses. Somehow it's just great. Highly recommended for the "frontpage", I want to see it there! Also I guess it's quite similiar to Aquaria. Hm, can't wait for that game :D [Edit] Ah, he also made Mage Craft. I remember playing that game. Well, I remember I didn't really have fun with it, but at least it also had the addictive upgrading system. Fortunately The Cleaner is better in every respect

You have The Cleaner on that list twice. Some other games too.
The Cleaner is totally recommended; the atmosphere of the game is great and the content will give you many hours of play time. Not to mention all the different spells and huge bosses.

There are many great games on that list, but I suppose this thread is rather ment for recommending a fewer number of really good games and especially explaining what makes them be so great in your opinion Still a very nice list! I finally got to check out Silver Knights, I heard about it quite some times but never bothered to download it

The Abrupt Goodbye http://www.hellodotdotdotgoodbye.com/From IndyGamer Damn fun game :D been playing it for ages. Some conversations are hilarious. You are a blind man. You are sitting on a bench in the subway. Someone sits next to you. >Get yer own bench! The young woman says, "Fine, even though I'm 9 months pregnant with twins, I guess I'll stand." >Thanks, now please move 10 paces away from the bench. The young woman says, "You can't be serious. I'm really pregnant." >You're really pregnant... My wife and I were never able to have children... The young woman says, "Well if you'd stop telling YOUR WIFE to find another bench....."

@Javet: Here are the games you mentioned that haven't been covered that I'd be interested in seeing on the site. If you want to write a couple short reviews for these, go for it! I can't guarantee they'll make them to the front page, so do one and let me see it first. @bigboss: Will try out The Cleaner as time permits. @Bonekhan: Limbo's been previewed on TIGS already, and at this point I really doubt it's going to become an actual game. Would be nice, though!

CloudPhobia CloudPhobia is a great shoot em' up from Japan (it's in English). There is no particular story except for shooting things. The game has nonstop action, great sound, and awesome sprites! The controls are simple. Z to shoot. X for missles. C for boost. B to turn clouds on/off. I'm still not sure why that feature was put in there. Anyway, you play as a flying mech if you couldn't already tell from the screenshot. The objective is to get as far as you can by the time the time expires. Of course, you can get past this by going to the options menu... WHERE YOU CAN MAKE EVERYTHING INFINITE MUAHAHA! Yeah. During gameplay, you will see 3 bars. The top one is your shield, the middle one is your life, and the bottom one is how many missiles you have left. Replays can be saved. This is a great shmup and is something every fan of the genre should play! http://www.caiman.us/scripts/fw/f1156.html

Marble ArenaI found this game because the author submitted it to a forum I moderate. It's great! Haven't played it much yet but so far so good! It reminds me of a very neat classic game, Marble Madness, but it has a fair amount of new concepts in there, like upgrades for your marble, 3D controls, online multi player play, etc. Download the game at www.marble-arena.com(Also available for Mac!)

I noticed that Silver Knights has not been posted on the site as of yet, so I thought I'd post some info about it: Yes, a samurai robot.Essentially, SK is a freeware 3D FPS/fighting game with, as was (and is) so common in such things, giant robots . However, don't let that deter you! It hasn't been updated since 2004 (don't let this deter you either, of course), sadly, so the story mode is unlikely to ever be finished, however, apart from that it works perfectly, happily including network play. The number of people playing on the severs is rather low as of late, unfortunately, but it used to be quite impressive . In any case, on to the gameplay mechanics: each "mech" has 2 weapons and another skill, which is generally not a weapon. These vary from character to character. Once you get up close, the game switches to melee mode and allows you to hit the enemy with whatever it is your chosen character hits things with. The above screen-shot is an example of this. The game's controls are a bit complicated to learn, and the best way to learn them is to play a few games against the computer. It is also possible to make custom maps and characters, as well. Give it a shot: it's free, so what is there to lose? Edit: Note that the newest playable version is 0.05D, not E or G. These versions are built for testing and contain only one character.
