Shredz64 - Guitar Hero for C64!

Website: http://www.synthdreams.com/shredz64.php

"Shredz64 is a modern day game for the Commodore 64 that makes use of the Playstation guitar controller hooked through the PSX64 interface. Its design is modeled against the popular “Guitar Hero” series, geared toward the ability to play along to your favorite C64 music on the guitar. Correctly played notes increase your score and applause meter, while incorrectly played notes decrease your applause meter. If the crowd stops applauding, you’re out! Additionally, Shredz64 features the “shredocity” meter that allows for extra points when you’re doing an awesome job shredding to your favorite chiptune."

With Shredz64, the fun doesn't stop when you've mastered all the included songs. You can add your favorite SID files to the game and record your own custom notes, or download songs other people have created - Shredz64 keeps rocking nonstop.

Cubes is an excellent online game. It can be summed up as a 3D version of the Tron lightcycles game.

You fly around, leaving a trail of cubes behind you. Hitting a trail kills you. You can move along any axis. You can also shoot at enemies, although it's not too effective. Several powerups are available, and you also have a boost. The world wraps around, so if you just keep going in a straight line, you'll eventually crash. The default level is empty, although there are a few other levels with some trails already added. That's about all of the game.

The game is simple, but it's good fun zooming along colorful corridors twisting about in a convulted path desperately hoping you don't smash into a wall. The beginning is rather disorienting, but you get used to it pretty fast. Learning curves was only about 5 minutes for me, and in about 20 minutes I was doing pretty well. Rounds are done survival style, and the field is pretty small, so rounds are fastpaced and short. Their isn't alot of time in between matches, so the game is good for 5 minute breaks or for l

The game doesn't have very complicated graphics, but the twisted multicolored architecture when you're well into a round looks pretty cool. It doesn't take a very fancy computer, either. My awful computer ran it nicely, with occasional frame rate drops.

The community is very friendly, helping out all the new and confused players. The menu mirrors the main game in simplicity, so it takes less than a minute to set your name and join a server. When there's about 6-8 people in a room, it's great fun, although it's still pretty good with 2 people.

In short, it's a fun and unique game, enjoyable on all accounts. I highly recommend it.

It would also probably be great for Game Night.

Also, this is by the guy who made Prototype 2.

The Spring Project

Has anyone of you ever heared of "The Spring Project", or "TA Spring". In its core, it is a rewritten engine for "Total Annihilation". This engine still supports the old mods, but it improves the Possibilites. Some cool Features:

good multiplayer Lobby
great mod Support
super Interface, IMO even better than Surpreme Sommander's
fairly unlimited units
many mods
nice community
open source

screenshots
Trailer
maps, mods, AIs & more
But play it online, this game sucks against the AI. Even if you loose it is cool to wath epic battles.

A great game I've never seen mentioned here:
Dawnspire

Shamelessly copied the game's main features from their homepage:
  • Team-based online action with persistent characters
  • No tedious treadmill
  • Six original player classes
  • A thriving community

Basically it's an isometric 3D medieval RPG, capture the flag/deathmatch/domination, online multiplayer game with several different classes (that can each be skilled individually). In my opinion it's one of the best multiplayer games in existence. Think "Team Fortress: Diablo", but don't let that stop you from checking it out. It's also from a Swedish developer, so it has to be instant win :D.

Arachnophilia

You spin a web by dragging the mouse (limited by the web bar), catch bugs and click on them to eat them. The aim is to keep your (ever draining) health up by eating. One new bug is introduced with each new level and eating them has varying effects. Some help you by making you faster or giving you a stronger web and others hurt you by taking more of your health or breaking parts your web.

No idea how old this is.. I only just came across it though.

Is it free?

Dawnspire? I think it is now. Previously you could play some part for free but had to pay for the rest. They stopped developping it further and from what I've read, you can access everything in the free version (though there may be in-game notes saying otherwise, which you simply have to ignore Wink ).

I'd like to see some mention of the Star Wraith/Evochron series.  Some of the earlier releases are available for free while the latest (Evochron Renegades & Arvoch Conflict) only costs around 25 USD.

The only one I've actually put any effort into is Evochron Renegades... and the features are really to numerous for me to not copy from the website.  I'm sure Vice won't mind.

True freeform gameplay without plot restrictions, conditions, or limitations. Experience ultimate gameplay freedom and play the game the way you want to.

Diverse gameplay choices and activities far beyond just combat and trading. Design and build a ship for speed, then compete in races for quick credits. Install a tractor beam that can be used to clean large solar arrays. Recover particles from stars and emissive nebulae, convert them into fuel, then sell the fuel for a large profit. Clear shipping paths of asteroids. Recover lost items and return them to nearby stations. There are many ways to make money and advance in the game.

A vast seamless universe that lets you fly anywhere without loading screens or sudden environment flipping. Fly from planet to planet, star to star, solar system to solar system seamlessly.

Interactive training mode to provide the necessary basics for flying your ship, managing its systems, and surviving in combat.

For the first time in the series, join other players in cooperative contract objectives with the new enhanced multiplayer mode and share in the rewards.

Unified gameplay architecture lets you keep the ship, upgrades, equipment, money, weapons, crew, and commodities you acquire in the game for use in both single player and multiplayer.

Clan ID linking system lets players establish their indicated threat levels with other players in multiplayer. Players sharing a common ID in their callsigns are linked together as friendly contacts while different ID's are indicated as hostile.

Challenge other players to multiplayer ship-vs-ship races and place the race course where you want in space.

Seamless planet descents that can include weather effects such as rain, snow, and turbulence. Explore planets for hidden benefits, trade at city stations, mine their surfaces for valuable materials, or hide in their atmospheres... they are an important part of the game's interactive universe.

New ship-to-ship trading and cargo system. Ship and trade weapons, upgrades, and equipment in addition to commodities. You can even load items from your cargo bay onto your ship, letting you carry more weapons, upgrades, and equipment beyond what you can install on your ship.

Customizable universe that lets you move objects in space, replace them, remove them, and change the local environment.

New high detail 3D cockpit with tiltable gauges and enhanced structures.

Enhanced 3D game engine with new effects, objects, textures, and performance.

Dynamic economy with realistic variable item availability.

Beam weapons, a new class of cannons, are available for the player's ship in addition to traditional particle cannons and secondary weapons.

Explore for hidden commodity and weapon storage containers which offer free reloading, upgrades, and other valuable items.

Use your wealth to design and build a new ship, buy better weapons, hire crew members, recruit other ships, install upgrades, load commodities, and more.

All new Shipyard lets you design and customize your ship for the role you want to play. Optimize your ship for defense, exploration, combat, racing, or transporting... the choice is yours. You can also position and scale each component to give your ship a unique appearance.

No required trade lanes or warp gates to hold you back. The game's universe is yours to explore with an open space navigation system and built-in jump drives. Optional warp gates are available for faster long distance travel and you can also install new gates in desired locations with the game's customizable universe.

Realistic zero gravity inertia based 'Newtonian' style flight model including complete 3-way rotation and 3-way direction control with optional variable input. An advanced inertial dampening system helps keep flight control simple in space, atmospheres, and gravity fields.

Realistic environment interaction far beyond the genre's typical 'background wallpaper'. Nebula clouds, asteroid fields, planet atmospheres, moons, and more all provide unique options for shelter and strategy. Such environment elements include changes in gravity, fuel consumption, physics, sensor range, and visibility.

Quick one-key access to jump drive navigation and inventory management. You control all system travel and inventory decisions right from the cockpit.

Explore the game's massive universe with several secret locations to discover, hundreds of planets, and many unique objects/obstacles to encounter including black holes, asteroid caves, wormholes, and stars. Create your own custom systems to further populate the Evochron universe.

Clue-based integrated story you can continue at virtually any time. Follow the beacons, solve the clues and voyage through many systems in a quest to discover the mystery of what happened to the Renegades. Players who take on the challenge of the story quest and succeed will discover a very beneficial feature.

Supports keyboard, mouse, gamepad, and joystick flight control. Use the controls you prefer to play the game. Force feedback control is also supported.

Supports Natural Point's TrackIR 3D head control system for managing the viewpoint from the cockpit with all six degrees of movement.

There is a small but loyal community of online players as well as a constant stream of updates, not to mention direct tech support from the programmer (Vice).

Oh god, Elona must be front-paged!

How bad can japanese roguelike be when you can get trait "Sexy (you can strike sexy poses)" and your alias can be "Sexy Sex"? Also, my warrior started with cloth battle-axe, how crazy is that?

Heli Attack 2

http://www.miniclip.com/games/heli-attack-2/en/

Although there is a Heli Attack 3 (and presumably a Heli Attack, but I have never found it) I have found that the second is overall more fun, although perhaps this is nostalgia on my part as the second has been around for a fairly long time. Heli Attack 2 and N were my Mac-friendly saviours in my high school information technology class.

The controls are similar to that of Abuse where the arrow keys control your movement like a regular platform game while you aim with the mouse cursor. A bullet-time slow motion is activated by holding Shift and is useful for getting a steady aim, while Control activates a super jump when you are on the ground. End changes weapon. The controls can be changed on the main menu.

The super jump seemed useless to me until I found out that if you kill a 'copter while you are in the air above it you get a small amount of ammo for a random weapon. This is an extremely important tactic as having a wide range of weapons at any time is crucial to survival.

One of the main things that struck me was the presentation - it looks and feels more like a good Game Maker game than a flash-made game. It is smooth, responsive and glitchless and has some good, if a little under-animated graphics that remind me of Metal Slug.

Overall it's a simple and fun game which can get a bit repetitive, but if you like platform shooter games and high scores, you'll probably like Heli Attack 2.

Heli Attack 3 may be worth a look at as well if you prefer more structure in your platform games - in my opinion the additions overcomplicate a winning formula but it's definitely worth a look at if you find the first (or second in this case) too repetitive.
