How about Elona, Japanese rougelike with some fairly good graphics.

Oh man, this looks freakin' beautiful. Why can't I read Japanese damnit? They need to come out with a Japanese version of this for us poor, uncultured Americans. I might have to try this out and make up what the text says :D

Fantastic Contraption.

http://fantasticcontraption.com/

It's playable in a browser, it has a near-perfect physics engine, it runs amazingly smoothly, and it's enormously fun.

PS: That creation up there failed.
PPS: It costs 10 USD for access to the editor and other people's levels.
PPPS: You can share your contraptions with the save button.  Grin

Surely Defender of the Favicon needs a special mention considering Derek's and Jeff's inability to copy over the favicon from the forums over to the main site (at least for a very long time - it's OK now). ^^

The fact that it's an awesome experiment, is surprisingly playable or, in my opinion, fits perfectly into the Web 2.0 slogan might be a contributing factor as well. =)

Check it out:

Oh god, Elona must be front-paged!

How bad can japanese roguelike be when you can get trait "Sexy (you can strike sexy poses)" and your alias can be "Sexy Sex"? Also, my warrior started with cloth battle-axe, how crazy is that?
My alias was Pope Legend.

Clearly this game is trying to tell me something.

I'd have to recommend that Elona be frontpaged; while it's originally Japanese, there's an English version with an almost-finished translation (the game should be fully playable). Elona is, well, stunning.

Also, has Cave Story: Jenka's Nightmare ever been featured on here? It's a Cave Story mod, and it's pretty fun.

Also, I'd like to offer up intrusion.

It's a platform shooter in Flash. It plays like a mix between Abuse and Metal Slug. Gameplay is the right amount of realism blended with the right amount of fantasy. You jump high and bullets move at a visible speed, but the level elements have proper physics. It's simple and fun. Highly recommended.

Wow, that game impressed me. At first I thought it is a typical simple and short Flash action game, and basically that's what it is. Also I think it's a bit lackluster in terms of graphics. But, man, that game is long! I expected it to end after the first boss. Typical: Simple and short. But nope, it went on. And on, and on.. while never being repetitive, oftentimes introducing new enemy types. Especially that crawling robot.. scary. Or controlling a huge mech. Not to forget fighting on a flying rocket!

As a sidenote the resemblences to Cortex Command struck me. Some of the concepts are very similiar, at least one image is even close to being identical and the partially heavy use of ragdoll physics in movement is similiarly successful in my opinion. Cool Smiley

I would like to recommend Amorphous+. It's an online game that recently came out in which you battle against slimes of various capacity. It's a top-down fighter, but it's really well fleshed out, and the gameplay is suitably exciting.

Alright, has La Soeur De Barrage been mentioned here before? It's a freaking awesome shoot-em-up. It uses mouse controls, and ridiculous bullet patterns.

I don't have any screenshots, but there's a video of me doing one of the more impressive patterns in the game.

Edit: Right, the download site is in Japanese, which makes that harder. It's the first link on the page (not on the toolbar on the top)
