lots of other games were nonlinear before deus ex. the closest comparison (other than peace walker) is probably ass creed, except mgs5 is actually good. in reality it's just peace walker 2.0 though. how long have you play? still at the first mission trying to be stealthy but am terrible at it (as always with these gams)

I want to know if the "Never been done before" thing Kojima hinted at is actually something neat.

I think it's because farcry team had a presentation in gdc where they formalized the open world enemy base free form attack design, design most current action game use (mgs 5 but also mad max), it was specifically perfected with far cry 3. Basically it's a function of cover density around a goal, you attack from an open low cover zone with emphasis on high visibility and ranged weapon, then go through tight hi cover low visibility that emphasized close range. Which is also basically the first deus ex level on the freedom island. I have no merit I read it too

F*ck Konami: MGSV FOBs beyond the first must be bought via macrotransactionsGuys, I'm looking at the official guide I got today and it states the following:
You must be online to build FOBs. Your first FOB is free of charge. Additional FOBs must be purchased with MB Coins, aqquired through microtransactions with real-life money.
Theres nothing about earning them ingame from what I can see.

i hope it's at least balanced so that by buying additional bases ur basically paying for "cheating". i have 0 interest in online play.
also good job not mentioning this anywhere pre-release to avoid backlash. what a bunch of sneaky fucks. EA levels of fuckery right there. i hope the fan backlash that will inevitably happen now is going to convince them to patch it out.

After completing the game, i can confirm motherbase stuff becomes a real fucking grind, FOB's would dramatically reduce the time it takes to get resources you need to build bases and even deploy into the battlefield with certain items. well shit everything else about mgs5 (mechanically) is awesome. basically pachinkonami took a huge dump on this game.

Gradius powerup scheme would be easy to drop microtransactions into.
Like, imagine that you had to pay for extra lives or something, okay? but whenever you die you lose all your powerups, so you'd have to pay for more lives just to like, break even and progress at all???

you could even have a direct micro transaction scheme that involve a physical apparatus in which you spend real penny inside a slot to buy a currency call "credits"

btw @gimmy, regarding ass creed vs mgs5: as i see it the main difference between asscreed and mgs5 is that asscreed pretends to be this nonlinear open world game but doesn't actually trust the player to come up with their own solutions. so it just ends up being this big scavenger hunt where you move across the map "connect the dots" style between predefined "points of interest". emergent/dynamic elements are kept to a bare minimum. it's literally "dumbed down". mgs5 is almost the exact opposite of that and rewards trying out different approaches. it also uses "points of interest" of course like searchlights, MGs, mortars, vehicles, antennas etc. but they are smoothly integrated into the emergent stealth gameplay and the game doesn't revolve entirely around them. also obv some of them are dynamic in themselves (vehicles move around, searchlights don't necessarily have to manned etc).
