"(...) I dont have licenses for the instruments." - well... I hate to be that guy, but if this really means what I think it means then you should really consider removing this music from your soundcloud, removing these instruments from your hdd and editing this post too. Just use what you have or search for some free vst's or... buy something better.

I completely understand what you mean, but I dont understand why I should remove them as they don't break any laws being there (I haven't used it commercially), I used it as anyone would use it as fair use/free to download. I even edited the attributions and such for non commercial use. I believe the other tracks showcase my creativity and approach to music without it being commercially based. Although if you or someone could explain the laws regarding the use of royalty free and just "free" music better for me, be my guest.

I will definitely look for more free vsts. Thanks again :D

Licence agreements of all known to me commercial audio software (e.g. Native Instruments, EWQL, Pro Tools, Izotope) are telling you that you simply cannot use them if you didn't made a purchase. You are not allowed to both commercial and non-commercial use.

If that's not your case then just sorry for all the mess in your topic. But I'm still curious - what are you using exactly? Is it software with some kind of BSD license or what?

As for royalty free music look here: http://audiojungle.net/ or here: http://www.shutterstock.com/en/music/

From el google/wikipedia...

"Royalty-free, or RF, refers to the right to use copyrighted material or intellectual property without the need to pay royalties or license fees for each use or per volume sold, or some time period of use or sales."

Royalty-free is for use in commercial space, it just means that it will be a one-off purchase for the buyer. So the buyer is not subject to any agreement to pay the composer after the initial purchase. But this doesn't mean that the buyer can then go and sell this music again (I think).

You could say that people can have this music for free, if they want it. But if they were to take it and use it, they would be in breach of the law due to using unlicensed software (depending on what the licenses for your instruments are) AFAIK, especially considering you made it publicly clear that you don't have licenses for them.

Moral of the story, get some damn licenses :D. I'm sure if you ask around for types of instruments, people on here would be more than happy to point you in the direction of some good ones they have used.

On Soundcloud, there is a non-commercial option, (not a fair-use option, not sure why they don't have one), so I was using these for fair-use, (Free to all to criticize and enjoy), I read the definition of non commercial, and it means (advertising a service for free, or without commercial objective.)

So for the NI instruments clause, these fall under fair use (not non-commercial), as for my tracks there is no service, as I ask for criticism, there is no commercial objective.

I understand the need for some licenses, but I simply can't shell out the cash yet. I need to make an informed decision based on what I'm doing in the future. But I will download free vsts. No BSD license, no.

I wont take my songs off soundcloud, as they are an inspiration for other artists (as are all kinds of music),
and for people who simply enjoy them and want to critique them (you guys are a very informative bunch).  Gentleman

Thank you from the bottom of my heart.  Grin
