i wanna get burnout paradise but i keep i hearing it's worse than the older games which i havent played either
god dang this attitude from burnout fans really pisses me off. it's a different fucking game. fwiw i think burnout paradise is the best racing game of last gen. yeah burnout 3 is a better arcade racer but they're different. if you can get burnout 3, it's totally worth it. paradise is too, they're just different games

There's also ChoroQ HG3/Road Trip Everywhere which has... notably wonky driving mechanics but uh... it's an open-world RPG about cars and I love it and I don't /entirely/ no why.

paradise is ok, but
1. the "open world" stuff in it feels contrived 2. the actual world is not v interesting 3. soundtrack is for the most part a parade of the shittiest 90s rock (with some equally awful guns n roses thrown in)
the actual driving mechanics are fun tho

i recommend customizing the playlist so only the music from the first two burnouts plays. i'm pretty sure that's possible and it enhances the experience a lot.

why can't every preexisting music gam soundtrack be as good as GTA's?
i have 0 intention of ever playing gta 5 but i checked the soundtrack and the selection is freaking impeccable (as always).

I'm kind of wondering why there hasn't been an interview with the game devs specifically about how they choose their soundtracks. Wouldn't be surprised if it turns out there's this one or two people on their staff who are walking music encyclopedias and Rockstar just got lucky with having them as employees.

and having fucktons of money for licensing. rockstar happens to have the combo of good taste plus money, whereas ea only has money. harmonix is the only dev that comes close to rockstar, but that's kind of their whole thing so it makes sense.

I think ProgramGamer is asking a different question? The original poster listed The Talos Principle which is pretty clearly not a sidescroller.

I'd recommend Mibibli's Quest for a sidescroller platformer.

oh it's such a broad genre that I guess I had trouble conceptualizing someone asking for recommendations without being more specific
DuckTales 2 is good!
