also i guess i want to know if it has anything that makes it unique compared to other jrpgs. or was it just praised for being really polished or ambitious or watever when it was new?

Grandia 1 wasn't terribly unique, it just had a fun battle system, well-designed dungeons, and a lot of personality.

Grandia 2 got rid of all of that, and is somehow better regarded. idk, it was one of the few DC RPGs, that's probably why people cared. Even then, I still think Shenmue and SoA were a lot more interesting and enjoyable, although the former takes a really specific mindset to get into, and the latter you have to accept going into it that the combat's just kind of there and the major draw is /everything else/.

I'm looking for couch co-op games for 2~5 (or more) players.
Asymmetric gameplay preferred, but not necessary. I'm especially looking for game jam stuff/experiments that toy around with asymmetric gameplay...
We're primarily playing  on PC(s), but stuff we can emulate is fine, too. Apart from that we've a projector and multiple Oculus Rifts at our disposal.

Games we already tried:
- Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes
- Artemis Spaceship Bridge Simulator

Games we know about and wanna try out:
- Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime

If you have n-key rollover, this is the best party game. Ever.

Has anyone here played the game Poi? http://store.steampowered.com/app/401810

If so, how does it compare to its inspirations (mainly Mario 64)? Platforming physics look promising from videos but idk.

Can I request a recommendation for a good action platformer on PC with a decent story? Would prefer xbox controller support.

An Untitled Story is free and should work with Joy2Key.

An Untitled Story is a great choice and an absolute must-play, but I'm not sure I'd call it an action platformer. It's more about careful positioning and very deliberate movement than speed and reflex.

I'd suggest Offspring Fling and Midnight Mansion. They're both kind of light on the story, but are a really good time to play.

I didn't gel with Axiom Verge at all. The story wasn't to my liking, most of the bosses were boring and so were most of the gun upgrades. However it feels solid, and I can see why people would like it if they enjoy the game's atmosphere. The music is super good though, and the guy who made it seems like a nice person.

As for other action platformers people seem to like, I guess there's always Cave Story, Iji, Kero Blaster, Shovel Knight, Castle in the Darkness, Nikujin, Teppoman & Teppodon, Environmental Station Alpha, Arvoesine, Noitu Love 1 & 2, Flashback, MURI... Not all of them have much of a storyline though.

sorry if you've already played any of these

definitely action platformers

The momodora series and guacamelee, which are excellent, guacamelee has a very developed story, maybe too much for me, though i do love it, i like the more minimalistic sorta stuff, it might appeal to you more
and momodora 3 and guacamelee both have controller support, though momodora 1 and 2 don't, i think, but they are free, while the third one is 4 dollars, i think.

insanely twisted shadow planet's story is sorta vague, but it is an excellent metroidvania-ish game, and probably has controller support
http://store.steampowered.com/app/205730/

snailiad is one of the most perfect games for me, though it has no controller support, being a webgame
http://www.kongregate.com/games/auriplane/snailiad

also, phoenotopia, also a free webgame, but larger and more polished than many commercial games, has a very good story, if you are like me, you will be hooked from the loading screen onward
http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/644696

also 2 by hubol which has no story but is one of the best freeware games there is, sort of a tribute to An Untitled Story, but with many different things that easily distinguish it from that http://www.hubolhubolhubol.com/index.php?id=2
also probably no joystick support

not exactly action platformers

gyossait which is an surreal shooting thing and mibibli's adventure which is also surreal, but more an epic megaman tribute, both don't really have stories per se, but have awesome atmosphere, they're very different games besides both being weird platformers, but both made with stencyl
http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/582867
http://ryanmelmoth.itch.io/mibiblisquest

the swapper is a puzzle platformer, you will either like it or love it, it has some super interesting stuff
http://store.steampowered.com/app/231160/?snr=1_7_7_230_150_2

knytt stories if you haven't played it, the original levels are perfect http://nifflas.ni2.se/?page=Knytt+Stories
and within a deep forest(free) and knytt underground(7$, which is a huge bargain)
there are some really good knytt stories custom levels, though you have to do some searching to find ones that really appeal to you because the archive isn't curated, and knytt stories doesn't have any shooting stuff. my favorite custom levels are awful mountain climber restaurant by healy https://www.glorioustrainwrecks.com/node/3489, rainy day adventure http://www.glorioustrainwrecks.com/node/3195, which is a glorious trainwrecks collab, all of talps's and farik's levels, and most of the things on this list: http://auntiepixelante.com/?p=439
it doesn't have joystick support, but worth checking out and stuff
also, if you didn't play glum buster, you may enjoy it, it has a vague sorta symbolic story-ish structure and some very interesting little systems and places http://cosmind.powweb.com/blog/?page_id=35
also probably no joystick support

sorry if this is annoying but i love these things

terry, you have incredible taste.

honestly the only thing I really don't like about my switch to pretty much exclusive mac usage is that i can't play knytt stories or old game maker games. or ikikki's games.

you can use wine for a surprisingly large amount of things, knytt stories works fine for me on linux with wine, as well as a lot of GM games like glum buster, though fullscreen does not work.
