Seriously. A total offset to the usual dirth of summer/fall games, this year I'm tapped out on cool titles like 20xx, Rivals of Aether, Yatagarasu AoC, Environmental Station Alpha, Redshift Blueshift, Castle in the Darkness, Megasphere, EvoLand II, Wanderlust Rebirth; and then I still have more "must gets" like TowerClimb, Lovers In A Dangerous Spacetime, and Undertale to go.
Who else is completely destroyed right now, and still thirsty for more?

this is the most disgustingly consumerist sentiment I've ever seen I mean "not spending money = bad person" is exactly what they want to instill but I've never before seen it internalized this completely

When I was really young, I had plenty of time to play games, but no money to buy them with. Now, I've got plenty of money to buy them but no time to play them.
The great catch-22 of life.

Compared to five years ago? This is a great problem to be having. I just wish I could change the fact that it's a problem.

I want to buy undertale but I don't want to buy undertale
I'm in this exact position. The trailers and visuals make it so unappealing but those reviews! I have a feeling it may be like FTL where it looks disgusting but is undeniably an awesome game when played

Undertale is a lot like Earthbound. If you look at individual screenshots the game doesn't look particularly interesting, but once you start playing it and everything gains context, it's a really great game. It has lots of moments where it addresses the nature of consequences, but it never lets that get in the way of fun and it does a good job of conveying its story via mechanics instead of walls of text. Not to mention, the quality of the soundtrack more than makes up for the graphics. was one of my favorite songs in particular. Having just finished getting all(?) the endings I cannot recommend it enough.

i don't think the graphics in undertale are that bad, theyre just very inconsistent. there are some really neat animations in there alongside shitty 2-frame walk cycles. it's so weird that im thinking it might actually be intentional.

Yeah, I've seen this kind of thing crop up a lot. Toby Fox is an OK digital artist, but a terrible pixel artist. The result are some decent high-resolution graphics but some terrible sprites. I guess the opposite could be said for me...I've experimented very little outside of pixel art so my high-res stuff is pretty bad.
