That was awesome. I'll add this glorious concert to the Hisaishi-love:

It's funny, not much normally, but this last track I had to write, was influenced heavily by Wagner and a helping of Holst plus a smidge of Koji Kondo.

YES! I have watched almost every Studio Ghibli movie, and loved them all. And I think that he's music for every movie is utterly brilliant. The most famous probably being Spirited away, is just heart touching throughout the whole movie.

But when it comes to japanese games, I have no idea about any composers or anything actually. I haven't played that many eastern games. So Joe Hisaishi is my only eastern composer that I've really listened to and been inspired by. Am I the only one perhaps?

We recently had a thread on Japanese games and music, maybe you will find something cool in there: http://forums.tigsource.com/index.php?topic=50538.0

As I wrote back then, Yoko Kanno is one of my favorite composers. She did a lot of work for Animes, notably Cowboy Bebop , Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex and Escaflowne. (I love Cowboy Bebop and its music to bits. Some of the tightest and lively big band arrangements I've ever heard  Kiss )

Awesome man! I have checked the thread you posted and loved it :D

Also, I listened the Top Score podcast today, great podcast btw, where they interviewed Inon Zur (Dragon Age 2, Fallout 3) and they briefly touched the subject of classical influences. But he only mentioned the usual, Debussy, Bach, Stravinsky and so on. But still, great podcast and such an inspiring people they talk to, I can really recommend it to anyone composing for games!
