I'm no mean professional or anything. I really have a doubt about people who get rich by only work with themselves.

I really want to know how hard is it to be a one man video game developer.

Thank for those who answer my question!!!

Keeping your motivation and focus on one project at a time, but I think everything else mentioned here is appropriate as well.

The following is a re-enactment of a standard weekend as a one man game developer who's been working on a project for a few years now.

-Friday: After work
"Finally, Friday night, tired from work but I think i can finish up the map generator improvements this weekend!"
*beep*
"oh, someone invited me to a game in league of legends? well...just one won't hurt"

-10 hours and at least 2 12 packs pass-
"Aww shit, I'm getting too sleepy now, oh well, still got all weekend, I'll just get some done Saturday"

-Saturday: 11am
"Crap, i slept pretty late,  feelin pretty groggy, I'll just watch twitch for a bit and play some UT4 to wake up...oh, there's an update, guess i should update my server and re-compile my mutators too....."
-12 hours pass
"****"

-Sunday: 7am
"****, I forgot I need to do laundry and take care of some bills, oh well, I'll just have to wait on the map upgrades."

Seriously, i swear, I get more work done on weekdays after work exhausted and sore than I do on weekends, lol.

Accountability is a big one for sure, but I'd say the hardest part is the obvious one: You are the bottleneck for all features making it into the game. You are the single point of failure in the production pipeline. Every last little thing falls on you.

If you don't have a producer mentality and aren't able to kill your darlings in the interest of maintaining a reasonable scope, it's easy to get overwhelmed.

my own laziness saves me from feature creep ever happening in the first place

I've just gone full-time indie dev, and the biggest problems I can see are self-control and overworking.

I can't stop myself from working. This is not a sustainable habit to work 15 hours every day, stay up all-night all-week, and consistently skip meals...

At least I'm aware of the problem I need to fix Shrug

also the loneliness... but that's uncomfortable to think about

that awkward moment when when people rather play flappy bird than a game you spent 1,000 man hours on.

going broke. having no social life. watching porn. being lazy.
losing interest - quitting projects and starting new ones - never finishing said projects.
