Play as Halima, a talented street artist that dreams of escaping the oppressive world of Babylon City, Aotearoa and finding the truth about the ancient city of Zion which once stood in its place.

CZEPTA //Escape From Babylon is a top down Action RPG currently being developed in Gamemaker: Studio.

Genre: Cyberpunk/Fantasy

Yo! my name's Ed and I'm an artist from New Zealand that decided to make games. I've been working on CZEPTA for quite a while now but have finally gotten the chance to do it full time. At the moment I'm programming the framework and working towards an alpha prototype from which I can build the full game.

My goal with this game is to create a great story world realised with beautiful 2D art and an engaging soundtrack.

For now, I will just share a few bits of concept art and one early music track. I hope you enjoy and look forward to sharing more.

Thanks for checking out CZEPTA //Escape From Babylon!

Been programming the enemy AI which took a bit of trial and error but finally seems to be working. I'm basing some of the core game play
on the stealth mechanics of Metal Gear. Halima - the player character isn't a fighter so avoiding enemies is preferential. I'm hoping to make the game play focus more on using agility and tactics to progress rather than brute strength.

I'm really liking the look of this! Also I never mind me some cyberpunk. I'm quite curious about the surfer-character shown in the header art.

Thanks for the support Jimym!

Thanks Lugen! The game starts is a place called Babylon City, Aotearoa which is a cyberpunk city ruled by psychic vampires. The surfer character comes from another city called Zion which existed before Babylon took over. The game is set in a sci fi/fantasy version of New Zealand or Aotearoa which is its real name. So a lot of islands and ocean etc.

looks great, the concept work is really good. Sounds like a great idea for a game, Good luck

Cheers Windybeard! Theres alot more concept art on my deviantArt Even a comic I made in 2012 set in the same world Smiley

Looking really good! Some great concepts that already give the game a good sense of character and place. Can I ask what sort of gameplay mechanics this is going to have? Is this going to be a bit like a cyberpunk Zelda?

I'll definitely be watching this one!

Awesome thanks! Yeah this will be a bit like a cyberpunk Zelda in some aspects like exploration and combat. It will also feature narrative type things from something like Final Fantasy VI or Chrono Trigger such as npc dialogue and cutscenes. The combat however won't be your typical hack n slash type thing though, it's more inspired by something like the early Metal Gear games. The protagonist is more of a stealth character.

As for progression, I'd like something similar to the Dark Souls bonfire system and interlocking areas.

At the moment though I'm still struggling to get some kind of a pseudo top down platforming system in place as there will be a lot of that kind of game play also.

Thanks for the watch! Smiley

cyberpunk Zelda ... Final Fantasy VI ... Chrono Trigger ... early Metal Gear games.

Argh that is one rich bucket of influences. I loved FF6 and Chrono Trigger as a kid, as well as Link's Awakening and the brilliant Metal Gear Solid game for the Game Boy. Looking forward to seeing all those elements come out with that high resolution artwork you're pulling off.
