I actually tried to make legit global variables in C++ once. When I discovered that you have do declare them at the top of your file in a similar way that you declare functions, I think a little part of me lost it.

There is a place for global variables just as any other features; don't blame a mechanic just because you repeatedly use it to shoot yourself in the foot.

Common core math is like that one guy who swears by switch cases, when a nested if else statement will do the same thing anyways.

My favorite quote ever: "C makes it easy to shoot yourself in the foot; C++ makes it harder, but when you do, it blows away your whole leg."

Wasn't that quote written in a book made by Byarne Stroustrup himself?

There is quite a series about this, that's my favorite:

"You shoot yourself in the foot and then brag for hours about how much more elegantly you did it than if you had been using C or (God forbid) Perl."
