Hi all,

So most of us are primarily composers here, but I'm sure many of us also play instruments. I thought it might be a good idea to create a thread where musicians and composers can meet and arrange to collaborate on projects. I've often found myself constrained by the limitations of vst instruments, and I think this might help some of us expand the realm of our musical capabilities, as it were.

So if you're interested in the idea, post which instruments you can play, what gear you have, and if possible an estimate of your level or a sample of you playing it.
You can discuss collaborations here or in PMs - please do keep in mind that learning and recording pieces takes time and effort, so ideally there should be some sort of exchange going on. Smiley But the terms are up to you.

I'll start:

- piano : I would say I'm decent (https://soundcloud.com/asavary/arnold-savary-lautodidacte-06). I don't have an actual piano though, I use an electric piano with vst. I'm beginning to get into jazz improvisation but mostly I've been playing classical / neoclassical stuff.
- guitar : I can play some pretty advanced stuff (https://soundcloud.com/asavary/sergei-no-tango for acoustic, https://soundcloud.com/asavary/k32y6dxzhyuc 4:15 for the electric guitar solo). I own a folk guitar and an electric I use with virtual amps. I like to improvise in blues, gypsy jazz, metal etc.
- bass : I play the bass like a guitarist, so I'm definitely not an expert but it does the job. I own an electric bass which I use with virtual amps too.
- cello : I own a cello but I'm a beginner at it. The only recorded bit I have is https://soundcloud.com/asavary/spires at 0:35.

So that's it for me. I'm not looking for any instruments in particular at the moment but I'm looking forward to listening to your performances.

Hey there :D

I actually do session work for people and love to practice so here goes:

~Flute https://soundcloud.com/zack-parrish/sacred-earth-memory-garenia?in=pearl_pixel/sets/flute-playing-pearl-pixel
~Oboe https://soundcloud.com/zack-parrish/sacred-earth-memory-memory-theme?in=pearl_pixel/sets/flute-playing-pearl-pixel
~Native American flute(F#, A) https://soundcloud.com/zack-parrish/avalaya-village?in=pearl_pixel/sets/flute-playing-pearl-pixel
~Melodica - just got this one, haven't gotten the chance to play it for anyone yet Smiley

I totally do NOT ask for compensation unless the track I'm working on in particular is being monetized.
Thanks for starting the thread!

Arnold, awesome idea! Really glad you made this thread. Though I play a few instruments, I'm not really confident enough in my abilities to offer up myself as a session musician.

I do hope more composers offer up their talents, though. John Fio plays a mean sax, and I think there was a guy on the forums who plays drumset.

Splendid idea Arnold! Looking forward to seeing the thread fill up with talents yet unknown. Grin

Myself, I play ambient electric guitar as performed in this track.

I play guitar through a bunch of pedals for sound design effects and melodies. I've been making weird noises in bands for over a decade.

Here's some recent stuff:

- Album teaser, Escape Artist
- Older track, Escape Artist

I play piano (hum de dum, I know) but I've been incorporating more guitar playing into my life! I remember a guy named Cornelis Jordaan posting here once, and he plays violin very well. He also has a guitar player that helps him out in playing pieces, and I rearranged one of my game tunes for violin and guitar, which was a lot of fun!

The link's here if you want to hear him play.

Sorry to everyone I've been gone for so long, first of all.

I personally play VERY basic piano, though I am trying to find the time to play more of it and improve my playing ability. Also have tried singing a few times.

Still, like for M4uesviecr, I'm nowhere near confident or competent enough to consider myself a session musician.

Ooh, I may have to hit you up for that eventually. If there's one thing I can't tolerate in computer music, it's VST aerophones.

Incidentally, if anyone needs hand percussion/found-object percussion or funk guitar, that's my thing. Unfortunately, the only recordings of myself on the internet (that I am aware of) are all low-quality phone videos from halloween house-shows in which we were routinely quite intoxicated but I can work to ameliorate that if anyone is interested. I also play drum kit but my currently living situation is inadequate for recording anything that loud but I'm willing to see what I can do to find someone a location more acoustically conducive to this endeavour.
