Hey guys,

Here's something I've been dabbling with recently. I've been playing through Zelda 1 recently and got inspired - I always wanted to make a game like that, the open world, the 'Zelda bits', etc., but modernize it completely. Combat-wise, I'm a huge fan of Dark Souls, so I've just tried to copy a lot of their stuff.

If you wanna see it in action:

I posted the Download Link and Instructions on NEOGAF:

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?p=194407361

The controls are pretty much the same as in Dark Souls. And you need an Xbox Controller to play it.

I'd love to get some feedback on just how the controls feel and it'd also be good to know if the LT/RT trigger work for you, since Unity is throwing me under the bus - I'm on Win10 using a Xbox One Controller and it looks like the axis assigments changed, so the triggers might not work for you under Win7/8 or if you're using a 360 controller.

NOTE: This is a very simple movement / combat test. There's not much to do yet, you can also pick up some flowers and stuff (just me testing things), but it's still very simple. But please try all the various moves you can perform. If you've played Dark Souls, you know what they are Smiley

Once you defeated all the enemies, press R on the keyboard to restart!

Feedback is very welcome!

Holy shit. That song hurts me right in the feels.

The awesomeness in this little demo is close to infinite. Shocked

I'd love to contribute to this project as much as I can. You really have a solid start here.

Did the controls all work for you? What system (OS) did you play on and what kinda controller did you use?

Yup, everything worked flawlessly with a Xbox 360 controller on Windows 7.

Kept working a bit yesterday on A&B. Here's a video showcasing some of the moves I added:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qxH05PbIkso&feature=youtu.be

There's now different combos for when you stand and walk, there's a stab move when you're shielded and walking backwards (for quick surprise jabs), there's a Ninja Roll, general rolls and Heavy Attacks, like the SwirlAttack and the JumpAttack.

Added an EXP System and Pickups as well.

I also fixed the walking animations, so now the playerCharacter shouldn't be able to moonwalk anymore.

If you want to try it youself:

Another night, another bit of progress!

1) You can drink a potion if you press X
2) The targeting is now automatic if you use projectile weapons
3) SPELLS: Switch between them with DPad Up. Use them by pressing Y. There's a Soul Arrow and a Combustion Spell.
4) Some other small things.

Great work, man! Both the art style and the combat look very cool. Any Zelda-like dungeons? Just asking, I'm pretty sold either way.

Good luck!

Definitely. I think similar to Ori I'd like to theme every dungeon and introduce some new gameplay with it Smiley

Setting up more complex enemy behaviors, enemies and a real level next Smiley

The art style looks excellent. Wondering if you will implement some kind of camera rotation ability? It seems like some enemies could get hidden by the trees or buildings in the foreground.

One of the next things I'll try is to make it VR ready - i think itd be very cool to explore the environments by looking around Smiley

Rotation via VR by looking around? I'm curious how you'd implement something like that in an isometric game. The more I think about it, the more interesting that problem becomes.

Yup, been spending a bit of time recently on the actual level design - It's gonna take a looong time still until it'll be done, but I love working on it on the side Smiley
