I was working on a submarine game when I heard about this compo. I'm in with my "U-2009".
Here are the first screenshots:
Player controls a Diesel/electric submarine by typing commands like "full speed ahead" in a chat window. Crew puts them into practice after a proper reaction time (~1 s). Some devices, periscope for instance, can be controlled directly with arrow keys though.
Firing torpedoes requires player to aqcuire correct data for the Torpedo Data Computer, so no point and shoot arcade gaming is to be expected. By sinking ships player earns credits he/she can spend on friendly shipyards to buy improvements.
There are eight stations in the game with different looks and functions: bridge, periscope, sonar, tactical map, control room, deck and flak guns and a torpedo management station. Not all of these are available until player buys required equipment. Equipment can also be destroyed by hostile fire, in which case the player needs to visit a shipyard and buy replacements.
I'm planning to include a campaign mode of 20 missions and several single scenarios. Every scenario happens on the same world map, but it's huge or at least hugeish.
