That creates a bit of a problem though. The review thing is supposed to simulate people talking about other members performance after the job kind of like gossip. The lack of peer previewing allows people to just give out ratings that may not be related at all to the actual performance, in effect trolling people. With that system you also lose any specifics about the job, like someone with a low rating could have done a shit job and barely made it through or they could have killed half their team members and you wouldn't know. But then I thought about it and if I am trying to simulate real life gossip, I should embrace the trolling. People should be allowed to tell other people anything they want about the other players. So I think I will go with non peer-approved text based reviews that are optional (after all you dont have to buy in to all these rumors and gossip). This brings me to another mechanic: injections.

So what happens when someone talks shit about you in real life. Well, you find them and have a "talk" with them. So in the game if you see someone gave you an unfair review, you "follow" them. Track what they do and wait for them to apply for another job. Then you "inject" yourself into that job without anyone knowing. You can preview the map before the heist but can't here any of the real planning going on. So once you are in, anything is fair game. You can go hunt down the lying person or you can off the whole crew and take the money. Its up to you.

Ok so what about a 2d beat-em-up game where the power of your attacks is influenced by how cool it looks.
A game where arbitrary backflips are more than welcome in making your attacks stronger.

For example, let's say you encounter an enemy.
(Click on images for full size.)

You throw a grenade behind them,

propelling them towards you,

then punch them midair.

Now in real life you would probably just end up injuring yourself.

But physics bends to the power of cool, thus allowing you to land a massively powerful blow, as well as leaving you unscathed.

Because launching someone at you with a grenade and punching them in the face is pretty damn cool. Cool

  • The player's attacks are stronger the more stylish they are.
  • The player would be able to grab and throw enemies/weapons, and do various acrobatic manouevres.
  • Holding click would hold your sword out in the direction your mouse is pointing, and moving your cursor around would cause the sword to swing.
  • You could use these mechanics to perhaps fire a shotgun in the air mid-flip, or hold your sword in the air for a falling enemy to impale upon.
  • Your character would become stronger by spouting one liners and dressing fashionably.

Story stuff:
The game would start in a nation ruled by a terribly oppressive, yet rather cool government. The populace is forced to live like pansies in order to keep their power in check, but an uprising finds its way to your village. Chaos ensues, but soon one of the upper divisions of the ballin' corps arrives to quell the rebellion. The considerably less awesome rebels are quickly defeated. Their leader, the only one left, valiantly fends off their forces, but alas is overpowered. As he is cut down, his cool-looking knife slides across the ground to you. You take the knife, and that's where the game begins.

Throughout the game you would amass an army, with your power snowballing as you journey towards the government HQ. You essentially ride a wave of badass into the capital, destroying everything in your way, and after that who knows.

In addition, succeeding in punching an incoming tank shell will cause it to wrap around your hand, creating a metal glove to bludgeon people with.

Before you can turn this into a game you need to better define what "stylish" is. Continuous attacks with combos? Punching people in mid-air? The game has to be able to recognize this stuff using a simple set of rules that can't be exploited.

That reminds me of an idea I had. Side scroller, main character runs about wearing a trench coat, entire game plays out like a John Woo film.

If this game gets made, make sure you can run on top of the bullets of a chain gun to kick the gunman in the head.

TITLE: TRUE2LIFE:THUGLIFE

hitting people makes their damage meter go up which makes them knockback faster and harder.  the harder they hit a wall the more money they drop.  if they run out of money they become homeless and helpless and won't bother you anymore.

homeless people can beg and once they get enough money they become regular citizens again.  They will hate you and will continue to attack you until they reach a satisfied level of income or you run out of money.

cops will beat the shit out of you until you drop all your money and then will leave you alone.

everything costs money.  certain people won't talk to you unless you do something that requires money like taking a shower.  Or sleeping in an apartment.

You can stay with your parents but that costs them money and eventually they will beat the shit out of you to get their money back

Cool idea, but I think it would be even better if the dragon defeated him and Antymattar was banished.

I'd envisioned a style-based sidescrolling beat-em-up involving this guy, BLAZE FULLBRAND:

Fighting against Demon Lord Nobunaga's army of mutant demon ghosts, who had teamed up with an army of robotic space pirate zombies to conquer the universe.

The final battle would consist of BLAZE FULLBRAND piloting a giant robot version of himself fighting Nobunaga as a giant robo-demon atop the space pirate flagship that's on fire as it drifts into a black hole  Epileptic

The gameplay revolved around accumulating MANLY BURNING SPIRIT by just fighting with normal attacks. As you fight, you'd build up your MANLY BURNING SPIRIT, and would be able to use it for special attacks, which would net you more MANLY BURNING SPIRIT, which would enable you to use even more powerful attacks, and so on.

He had his MAGNUMS, which are punches using his revolver gauntlets, and DRIVES which were kicks using his motorcycle boots. There are three varieties of each: BUSTER, BURST, and GATTLING.

BUSTER is a heavy version, BURST is a ranged version, and GATTLING is a really, really fast version.

And then there'd be elemental additions, so you'd have him shouting stuff like BURNING BURST MAGNUM, or RADIANT BUSTER DRIVE.
