Hi! I'm Andrea from Mode4, we're a small indie studio located in Brussels, Belgium. We've been developing our first game, Bombslinger, for almost a year now and it's planned for late 2016 on PC/Mac. Consoles will hopefully come not much later.

Bombslinger is a Spaghetti Western single and (local) multiplayer player action game very much inspired by Bomberman.
It's a classic quest to avenge your family's murder by the hand of your younger brother and former posse-companion, the Gunslinger.

Website http://www.bombslinger.com

Although the Bomberman inspiration is obvious, we chose to tackle it from a single-player perspective first (we're big fans of Saturn Bomberman single player mode, as weird as it might sound Grin). And we really wanted to make the feel of the game more...explosive!

We're adding rogue-like elements like generated levels, random enemies, weapon upgrades, items and abilities. There will be 4 environments and several Bosses to fight.
Last but not least, there will be a couple of multiplayer modes as well, classic deathmatch and something else we're still trying to figure out ourselves...

We've been developing the game for a few months and we mostly focused on building the "backend" and tools to easily create all the content.

Soon we'll go into a content-production phase and we think it's a good time to gather wider feedback on the game, the art, getting new ideas in and getting a sense on what kind of interest people can have for Bombslinger.

I know the website is still very bare bones but it would help us a lot knowing what YOU would find cool in a game like this and any suggestion is super welcome!

Let us know what you think!
Thanks!

Hey Andrea, glad to see you here as well!

I'm curious what kind of enemies and bosses you'll add later on. A lot of potential in power-up items too.
Keep on developing!

@lobstersteve
Thanks! We try to achieve a more explosive game feel than a regular Bomberman game (which is quite tame, boom-ness wise :D).
And the trailer style was inspired by Full Throttle, which we love quite a lot!

@The_Observer:
Items are one of the features that will distinguish Bombslinger from the classic Bomberman experience. Besides the expected variations on the bombs (molotovs, detonator bomb, explosive barrels...), there are some non-explosive weapons like a gun, tomahawk, knives. These will be in limited supply though as we want the gameplay to stay explosion-focused.

Bosses are still something we need to work on a lot. We have one basic boss (below) but I think we can do much better.
When you look as some of Bomberman bosses (like on Saturn Bomberman), those guys really did impressive things with massive, multi-part enemies.

Problem is, we want to stay a bit more on the "realistic side" so gigantic bosses are not so easy to come up with...  Facepalm

We came up with some ideas that we need to flesh out but if you have any, please share Smiley

Have you thought about an enemy on a horse?
For example one that goes back and forth in a row while shooting through the columns? Or one actively circling the player while throwing bombs.

Or one with trained vultures swarming and dropping bombs all over the playing field.

@Superb Joe: indeed the N64 are interesting as they do things differently (although game-wise I like the classic ones better). An interesting one to try out is Bomberman 2 on NDS: it has a health bar and permanent upgrades.

@The_Observer: A big horse would look cool indeed and would still look not too "out there". Right now we're sticking to classic spaghetti westerns and not really going into big robots (or similar) territory as in, let's say, Wild Wild West.

It's a heated debate at the moment Smiley

@JobLeonard: we had the bomb-dropping vulture idea for regular enemies. A lord of the vultures kind of enemy, that would be cool though.

More detailed posts about bosses will come, we have some concept art ready and discussing gameplay patterns could be really cool Smiley

the trailer is fantastic, nice work

as for boss ideas... perhaps:
-giant splinter shooting Cactus
-giant hopping revolver(or possibly carried by a gunslinger) that charges a large shooting attack(that covers a wide area) in one (of the four)directions at a time
-tornado boss that swirls around the map really fast

good luck!  Ninja
