So, thanks to Michael Phelps and his bong-induced shenanigans, the debate over the legalization of marijuana has risen up again. I personally don't do any drugs, save for the occasional dose of coffee, but I know there are people who do, or at least know people who do. What's your take on pot? Are they making a mountain out of a molehill, or is it a legitimate concern?

Drugs are great. Do them while you're young.

An interesting viewpoint I've heard is that legalizing some of the less harmful drugs such as pot would reduce gang violence and take away a huge source of the profit of some gangs. And really, it wouldn't increase the amount of people who smoke pot by much. Right now, if you want it, you can get it.

The only thing the press does is make mountains out of molehills.

I'm with Fuzz. Don't do the stuff myself, but I think it would be a great way to decrease criminal activity. I also find it really silly to have laws against doing stuff that hurts only oneself.

The world needs more quiet and mellow people. I say bring in the potheads.
Also, alcohol is probably the worst drug to have around, it kills thousands of people and acts as a catalyst to violence and disorder and yet it's legal, go figure.

I can't do drugs anymore because of anxiety problems, I don't even drink alcohol or coffee.
That being said I am fully in support of all drugs being legalized.

Making beer illegal in the US didn't help the first time, why would it work now? All it did was make it worse.

Just a couple of things: - A lot of people actually have no idea what drugs are, they think it's some kind of "fairytale device". Just look at some of those american movies: Like a dude smoking a joint, then the next scene shows him flying in space with smiling aliens. Wtf? - I can't see how some people getting addicted is more dangerous, and more damaging to society than organized crime. - I never seen a person choosing not to get high on drugs, cuz he feared about getting busted. - I like Bill Hicks. Btw, this one is hilarious: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YJRg5fGN-sQ :D

i personally agree with the legalization thingies, but still even if it less harmful than other legal drug, pot is not a magic solution. Smoking a joint is close to smoking like 10 cigarettes. Unfortunately its true, not some bullshit propaganda. So unless they find a way to make it smoother; you will still be smoking crap that will ruin your lung. Hey, nothing is perfect

- I like Bill Hicks. I like Bill Hicks too (that's actually an understatement, I fucking love Bill Hicks), but regarding his drugs beliefs he lacks consistency, specially regarding the cigar smoking bullshit he never shuts up about

I feel you there for sure. honestly i could give a fuck what anyone else does as long as it doesn't negatively effect me or the people i care about. Personally, aside from the anxiety issues, i dont drink or use drunks because i dont believe there is anything to be gained by escapism, i believe more answers are found when one is completely clear headed and though there are many who believe some drugs can reveal things, i dont think thats true in the slightest. That said if it makes you happy and it doesn't effect the lives of others then rock n roll.
