What up gangstaz?  Beer!

I've been developing this game called "Psychedelic Farmer" for the past few months. I envision this game to be a mix between Harvest Moon & Drug Wars, two games which I enjoyed immensely.

Gameplay
Basically, you start by growing psychedelic fruits in your small little farm and then cruise over to town to slang. You hire warriors at the dojo to protect your farm from crackheads (fruitheads?) and from the FEA (Fruit Enforcement Agency). Ultimately, you can expand your domain by taking over other competitor farms.

Development
The game is coded in C++/SDL and is currently only supported by Windoze (however, I do plan to port over to Linux/Mac). The pixel art is done by Zenobia, Lee Choi and yours truly.

You can check out the progress at: http://www.illogictree.com

If you wish to help out with the game art or anything at all, feel free to email me ([email protected])

Most of my time has been spent coding the scene editor so not alot of headway on the actual game. Currently, you are only able to walk around and to feast your eyes on delicious pixels.

There is currently no gameplay, it is WIP!

Anyhow feel free to download to check it out:

Controls:
Move: WASD
Capture Screenshot: [PrtScr] (saves to /screenshots/ directory)
Fullscreen: [F4]

If you may be so kind, may you please give me any feedback regarding artwork, mechanics, or anything at all...

Thanks.  Evil

looks nice

walking feels very slow

also, one small thing: if you're pressing up, and walk into an object, you stop moving; if you press left or right, then, without releasing up, you don't move.  this doesn't feel too natural to me...

i like the music also

fullscreen toggle (off/on) seems back to front...have you considered doing checkboxes instead?  they might make more sense visually

quite spiffy, and i can imagine the more finished product being even moreso

not collision-detecting inter-player .... collisions ... feels weird to me at the moment, but maybe one gets used to it?

wow, thanks for the quick feedback!

Yes, I am aware of the collision issue, I simply haven't implemented collision detection for objects yet. But that is what I plan to do soon!

I wasn't sure if he was walking too fast or too slow. I guess it's what happens when you stare at your game all day long. Anyhow, thanks for your feedback about his walking speed. I will definitely increase it on the next release.

I'm really looking forward to this game's eventual release!

I agree with Stephen; the walking feels a little slow.  I'd say not by too much, however; the animation is definitely too slow.

It's looking great so far.  The menus are snappy and the graphics are cheery, but there's not a lot to provide feedback on yet.

I'm looking forward to future updates!

Alrighty, so affirmative on the slowness. Will most definitely change it.

@Razputin thank for your kind words!  Smiley

Now I will get back to work so that I provide some actual gameplay.

Avast antivirus thinks intro2.xm is a Trojan :/

Good basis for a game, seems you spent a lot of time making sure the interface and everything looked slick (with the transitions and such).

@ nihilocrat

My friend had the same issue with her Avast! antivirus. I scanned it with my computer at home and at work and it finds nothing. Weird, because intro2.xm is a music file..  WTF

I'll look into it, but I feel that Avast! is just overreacting

and no, i'm not trying to infect the interwebz   Evil

I checked the mini-demo; I like the visual style of the game, and I also liked Harvest Moon on SNES... also have no problem with psychedelics, so I guess I'll enjoy this one.  Beer!

Yeah, always give priority to the most recently pressed key when you can only walk 4 directions.

Question: why is the guy so much bigger than the town and trees in this shot?

I didn't even know THAT was possible with a PANDA!

I'm guessing it's typical RPG-ish overworld stuff.

Anyway, I love how this game looks. I'm looking foward to see this game finished. Great stuff.

I quite like the artist style, looks interesting. My scanner detected a trojan while downloading it though; using Avast.  Huh?
