Maybe the shards change into a blade at the very moment it hits a foe?
I was thinking more shards = more surface area which means more lacerations. Assuming the magic holds the shards in that general shape, it could really hurt.

It's a magic sword, it can do whatever it wants! You know the rule for magic items. The cooler it looks, the stronger it is - practicality has zero effect. I'm still deciding on its exact abilities, though.
Glad to know that people like it!

Did you write the graphics engine? Or what are you using?

Nah, I didn't write the engine. I'm using the Blender Game Engine.

I finished the paint program for the rewrite of my ansi graphics library. the paint program and the library have both got shitloads more features and optimization than the old one, and it's even backwards-compatible with the tilemap files from the old one. now that I have both this and a very cool parser I wrote at my disposal, you should be able to expect some sweet stuff out of me in the relatively near future.

@_Madk: Awesome! I wonder if the higher palette colors are arbitrarily variable?
The first 16 colors of that palette look to be similar to the classic 16 color EGA palette, but EGA had 64 colors to chose from, only 16 on screen at once...
Also, <3 your use of good ol' CP437

the palette and character set are both totally customizable, I used that palette as a foundation and just added a bunch of extra colors to it also, what I did today: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/10116881/program/colorspace.exe I wrote some code to convert color spaces: RGB, CMY, CMYK, HSV, HSL, HCL, CIE XYZ, and CIE L*ab

Too bad I never made much progress on a RL.

Today I made a title screen. This should be animated, but seems to not be looping when embedded. Click it to open in a new tab if it's stuck for you too.
