Good morning folks!

Download Current Build: http://www.shengames.com/pc/dstp/dontsavetheprincess.zip

===============================
UPDATE - April 11th, 2009
===============================
Updates in this version:
- Illustrated a new Title Screen
- Music / BG sound FX
- In Editor mode, pressing 1-4 will bring up the corresponding piece instead of having to go to the bottom and clicking.  A bug that occurs is if you press 1-4 multiple times, the items get stacked and you can't lay them down.  Pressing the right mouse button will delete them and fix itself.

Updates for next version:
- Not... really sure... people have suggested new sound FX?  I'll look into it, but I do like SFXR's "free" aspect.

===============================
UPDATE - April 10th, 2009
===============================
Updates in this version of the game:
- All 24 puzzle levels
- Green block turned into little monster
- Green Button destroys all green invisible blocks
- Red button changes all red invisible blocks to solids
- Little medals for beating a level
- Level 24 is locked until all other levels are completed

Next Update
- Some kind of background music / sounds
- Clean up title screen / puzzle select
- Hold a custom level competition for PRIZES?  Addicted

New Screenshots

===============================
UPDATE - April 8th, 2009
===============================
I've added a few more features to the game!
- Title Screen
- 18 total puzzles
- Level Editor

The only thing you'll have to remember with the level editor is that you must "Test" the level first before you can save.  You should also solve the puzzle as the editor automatically determines how many green launcher blocks it will give a player to try to solve the puzzle.  If you do not properly do this, then the number of green launchers will be miscalculated.  When you save the level, you will save two files: final and edit.  The final is the version you distribute.  Edit is the one that allows you to edit it later.

Just use the same download link to get the newest version.

I would like to share the newest game that I'm currently working on.  It's a puzzler that has you stopping a knight from rescuing the princess.  The only way to stop the knight is to have him run over magical launchers that will launch him in one of four particular directions.  Each level has a different goal, but mostly requires you to either do X amount of damage to him or have him smash into the "Green Brick".

Click the gate to start the level and click the gate (while it's closed) to stop it.  Left click to place launchers.  Right click the delete them.

You can also currently save progress of your level by clicking the "save button".  The current levels (there are only seven so far) aren't difficult, so you probably don't need to use this functionality yet.

Upcoming in future release:
- More levels
- Additional launcher block (fire)
- Title Screen
- Level Editor

hehe fun game, its hillarious sending the guy flying around to his death..
sound effects annoyed me, so some music and comic sfx would be pretty good i reakon. Also, some of the crossroads lvls i only had to use 3 blocks or so.. i guess tweak that puzzle

I'm guessing the fatal error at the end of level 8 is just because you haven't finished this yet, right?

Anyway, quite entertaining sending the little dude flying all over the place. The stairway level was particularly fun to watch. Keep up the good work!

Cute, and a lot of potential for tricky puzzles.  And painful killing of knights.

That's... absurd.

Pretty fun though, and well designed.

Awesome fun!
 Evil

If I click on all the arrow blocks from the menu before placing any, I seem able to place a multidirectional block! Is this intentional? If so, it'd probably look better if it had an arrow/cross that represented this instead of looking like the last arrow block I selected?

It took me ages to work out that the knight takes damage from running through things. Otherwise great, really cool concept. I hope you make lots of levels. And a level editor?

Yes, a level editor would be fantastic, since this concept has so much potential for hilarious puzzles and challenges.

Also, a more in-depth tutorial would be appreciated, but I know this is an early build.

One more thing though, the Game Maker special effects tend to slow down some computers a lot I've found, especially with multiple ones going off at once. Just something to think about, the game's still good fun with or without them  Smiley

Hm, I'll definitely keep that in mind.  As far as the FX go, are you talking about the fireworks when you win/lose or when the blood/bones shoot everywhere?  Those are done different ways and I feel the latter is a bit, well, chunky coding.  Smiley

I also will try to make those first few levels with appropriate signage for "place a block here... 25 points of massive damage".

Thanks!

I mean the fireworks that appear at the end of each level, the ones you can generate in Game Maker with one click, I know that they're a bit much for some systems. I'm not gonna tell you how to sail your own ship, though.

I am definetly going to give this a try when i get home. I love the art but i gotta ask, Why a green block? why not a mystical fire or the head of medusa? a green block just seems kind of bland.

Haha, ya.  That's what a colleague of mine pointed out.  I'm planning on changing it to "feed the dragon" instead of "hit the green block".  A green mystical wormhole may work as well.  Wizard
