I just can't warm to the style. I like Nifflas as a person, and he probably hates me due to the ammount of crap I give Knytt stories, but I still feel if silhouettes are going to be used they have to be like.. wow factor. Some examples would be:

I mean, it's silhouettes... they take a lot less time than fully coloured work, at least make them look stunning, not hard when it's just blackness. I wish he'd not try to be so independant graphics-wise and get an artist to help him perhaps, I'm sure there'd be loads of artists willing to work on a game with him.

Is Nifflas still making this in MMF2? Is Nicalis then manually porting all his MMF2 work to C++, or did they actually write some sort of MMF2 interpreter to run the game?

I have to say though, that the whole silhouette look is getting kind of grating. It is coming off less as a style and more as a crutch for devs doing higher resolution projects.

There is the MMF2 version which runs on PCs, and then there is an engine for WiiWare.  Since Nifflas uses his own external level formats, the WiiWare version can run the same levels as the MMF2 version.

Exactly. Especially if the game is even called Night Game. You have to explore the possibilities of the theme more or something. I actually have one of those funky paper puppets by the way. I got it as a gift from a scout master from Pakistan when I was in elementary school.

Yeah, like me! Seriously though, every time I play an awesome game with crap art I want to reskin the whole thing Smiley And it is clear that Nifflas has awesome design sensibilities. He could give amazing art direction. But his actual artwork skills are pretty average.

I can relate though- it is really hard to admit your weak areas and get help when you are working on your baby.

So essentially they did have to recode the whole engine. They are just loading in the same assets. I wonder how they made the physics interactions sync up though. Even small differences seem like they could break puzzles pretty easily between the two versions.

Well the physics in Night Game I believe are handled by the physics extension in MMF2, which runs off Chipmunk physics, so as long as they use the same physics in the Wiiware engine there shouldn't be any issues.  THEN AGAIN, I'm not really a coder so I don't know for sure.
