UPDATE: we updated the information of the thread with new content, images and gifs. We talk about the factions of enemies and new bounty hunters.

Quantum Quest is a virtual tabletop video game. It mixes elements from board games such as deck management and tactical combat.. The staging and the mechanics emulate a table with boards, miniatures, tokens and even a dice that the players will roll over it.

We are currently developing a single player story mode, but our aim is to  develop a multiplayer mode and other  features if we achieve our goals with kickstarter.

The player controls a group of bounty hunters in a world depicted more than a thousand years into the future. Their lives are ruled by violence and the hard live in the underworld, and find themselves  involved in a conspiracy that  concerns them and their loved ones.

The aesthetics and mechanics of Quantum Quest are  inspired by several sources:. films, anime, comics, and legendary board games. We'll find echoes from Akira, Blade Runner, or Heroquest.

Year 3241

The human population has reached 35 billions of inhabitants on Earth. The big cities have grown vertically turning on Megatowers. While the richest citizens live on the surface, the other 85% of the population live  in the subsoil.

The human being has  exceeded his natural limits through science. Genetic engineering, nanotechnology and artificial intelligence are widespread and  assimilated by  society.

Underground the shortage of resources leads to a big crime rate. Illegal markets, technology traffic, drugs and corruption accumulate on the foundation of the cities. The lower levels are so dangerous police forces have the access prohibited.

The games in Quantum Quest will always share a series of common features:  board game exploration and combat. Some of them will have special rules, and the length of each game will vary depending of the size of the board and the different objectives that the players must fulfill.

The length of a game and its complexity is measured by  the number of cardboards that are used. The more boards, the more complex and longer the game will be. Each board is made of 10x10 squares. Most of the boards have one or two walls, and a modular system makes all of them match among the others to create longer rooms, corridors and complex sceneries.

We have developed an event system which sets randomly the board in each mission. Therefore the experience is also different in each game.

The sequence of the game is turn-based.

Each turn is divided in 3 phases

STRATEGY PHASE

On the Strategy phase the player plans  what he wants to do. This is a secret phase for the other players or NPC, all of them decide at the same time what they'll do on the next phase. Players (Bounty Hunters) have a deck of cards from which they  have to decide what card are going to use in the action phase(Also you can play without cards). We have created a whole set of items and will create more  weapons, upgrades, special actions, restore items and others.

ACTION PHASE

On the Action phase all the card actions chosen by the players are revealed  . The players can then see what happens in their turns. We are developing tabletop mechanics and player options to add complexity and make more interesting what to decide each turn.

CONTROL PHASE

In the control phase occur special events, some action resolutions or character states  -like someone who is injured or shocked.

There are some factors you must to have in mind on Quantum Quest when you are resolving a combat. Substantially a combat is made of 3 steps:

1.- Ability roll: the chance to impact over the enemy.
2.- Penetration roll: the chance to decrease the enemy armor or life.
3.- Apply the damage: the impact areas of the weapons and the modifications of the character states.

If one of these steps doesn't success, the process is stopped and the action ends immediately.

We have the Panel Dice to assist us on the battle., There we can see a representation of the combat, how we roll the dice and the changes in the stats. Also  the LCD monitor, which is going to give us information about what is happening on the combat.

To defeat an enemy, you must drop his life to zero. Sometimes you'll need to weaken his armor before hurt him.

Depending on the cards you choose for your strategy during the turn, you will need to get close to the enemy to hit him, or attack him from the distance behind a coverage. You can even combine the actions of several players to accomplish your strategy. You decide what you like the most!

There are different types of Decks: Player Deck and Mission Deck

Each player has a deck of actions cards. Besides, he will receive more cards as rewards on missions and events. He will arrange accessories, inventory, and temporal bonuses on the game.

Bounty Hunter Deck

Weapon Cards: There are different styles of weapons with different skills, but they are close combat or distance weapons.
Item Cards: Hacking, Explosions, Materials, Restore items, Special objects, Mission objects, temporal cards.
Special Cards: Character Skills, Room status changes, Special actions, Mixed weapons.
Some of them are only wearable by a specific character, other are common objects.

Mission Decks

The game have different decks that will appear randomly in the game.

Weak/normal Enemy deck: depending on the missions, different types of enemies will appear.
Strong Enemy deck: like an elite or boss enemy. Hard to defeat and always difficult the mission.
Rewards deck: sometimes certain objects give you an action card that increase your hand.
Event deck: an event could appear in the game and could affect enemies or bounty hunters, even both.

Mission Inventory

Each time we want to play a mission, we will have to choose what bounty hunters you want to get involved and what kind of weapons, special cards and items you will bring to the battle for each character.

The cards of bounty hunters, will be uncovered and unlocked in the course of the game's history through special achievements, secondary missions, history events, or other special circumstances.

One of the elements revived from classic roleplaying games is the non-cubical dice. The player will use 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, and 20-side dice.

Ability rolls will be made with 10-side dice. The player will need to success a difficult based on situation, distance and skill of the character.

Penetration rolls will be made with multiple combinations of dice depending on the weapons he/she is using. Sometimes it will have a modification that helps the player reach higher numbers. For example: 3D6, 2D4, 1D12+3

The main characters of this story are mercenaries. Bounty hunters who don't have any other way of life than entering in the underworld to make the dirty job of the upper  city. They are  detested but still needed by Megatower's citizens. When the government needs a shock troop to impose the law, command these task to the private military agencies.

These contract soldiers live full-time dependent on the surface's needs, and they go along their lives through complex surgeries to improve their bodies. Some of them finally have become more machines than organic beings.

We follow on Quantum Quest the story of a group of these legal killers. For now we know:

Jimmi J Scope: Former soldier who must return to his job. Tired out of violence, he must become involved again in this bloody world on the sewers seeking to find his lost brother.

Lena Lein: Born on the deepest streets, from an early age she showed a great skills for this kind of job. She was sold by her parents as soldier when she was still young, trying to avoid a worse destiny. She is very close to Jim.

Jack: Born to this life, he really enjoys killing. He lives like a nomad in the streets and he is only worried aboutwinning money and waste it on mundane pleasures.

Ozu: Developed to serve on of the Clans as Intelligence Weapon. He lost her family, and claims revenge.

In Quantum Quest, the main characters will found lot of enemies. They will be part of different factions and levels. As bounty hunters, we will enter into the deep levels enes of the city, where surface's laws doesn't exist, and where people does anything to survive.

FACTIONS

From Left to Right:

Skull: At the beginning of the game they'll be involved in brawls with Skull band members., Hipsters smugglers of the sewers, who trade with raw materials and basic products in the underworld.

Raggers: Scrap dealers and mechanics of the subsoil, who live trading with scrap and renting their mechanic services. They have lot of business deals with crime syndicates.

Void: An artificial intelligence that was created originally to keep crime on the lowest levels of the megacities. Aside of this function, this AI has developed other new tasks on its own. Although it keeps doing its main mission, nowadays it's out of control.

Mutants: Bottom inhabitants who have suffered mutations because subsoil's toxicity. It's said that some of them are provoked...

Criminals: Weack and non military faction. They are forgotten people, full of anger and sadness, united against the city that has ruined them.

Further, we want to focus on the ambience and the mood of Quantum Quest, and develop the main story using different visual elements. On occasions we want to show cinematics like our promotional teaser, other times we want to focus in some bounty hunter conversations.

Currently we could say that we are working on the pillars of the game. We are half-way to have a 100% working video game, and at the same time we are developing the world, the characters and the story.

We want to develop Quantum Quest and publish it on Steam in chapters.

The features of the first chapter of the game are:

- 6 Bounty Hunters
- A few Villains
- Story mode with a main story
- Secondary missions
- 5 enemy factions

After the local testing in Valencia, we have received a lot of feedback and we want to explain some things we are improving the last weeks.

- We have integrated a cover system and designed new objects for the board.
- Now, we can shoot from the corners of solid walls and gain a special protection.
- The effectiveness of the weapons changes through distance
- We added some visual help to know:
     - Life and armor
     - The value to impact in a cell before roll the dice
     - Different colors to know the effectiveness of the weapons
- Our New custom dice with Fumble and Critic symbols, do you like it?
