SUPER JOE, YOU HAVE UNTIL JUNE 11TH TO FINISH A GAME
>> COUNTDOWN <<

As the game's creator you may have some outside help and you may ask of help from the forums, but the majority of the game's creation must be yours and yours alone.

The game must be playable on either a Windows PC or Mac.

BACKGROUND:

Let me first make it clear that I never knew Joe personally, even before the war.  But I was on friendly terms with his comrade, Nathan "Rad" Spencer, and even though Nathan was always distrustful of "slant-eyes" whom he believed were "all commie bastards at heart," we shared a mutual respect and a shared love of video games.  In his final days, as an infection from his bionic arm began eating away at him, Nathan chose to confide in me about his days in the Federation military.

From the stories that Nathan told me, "Super" Joe Gibson was a stand-out soldier, beloved by his comrades and his superiors.  He quickly rose to prominence during four tours of duty in Germany.  By the time the Nazis re-emerged as "the Badds" in 198X, Joe was well on his way to making general.  Unfortunately, as it came to light that the Badds were attempting to resurrect Master D as part of "The Albatross" project, the Federation sent Joe on a black-ops mission to infiltrate the Badds and he was subsequently captured.

That Nathan, fitted with the Federation's multi-billion-dollar "bionic arm" technology, went on to save Joe from the Badds and destroy The Albatross is now a well-known story, and popular amongst nationalists looking to prop themselves up under the banner of patriotism.  What's less often discussed, and which the Federation takes great pains to cover up... what Nathan "Rad" Spencer revealed to me in his final days on an anonymous hospital gurney in New Jersey... is that Joe suffered terribly at the hands of the Badds, who tortured him physically and mentally for years.  Beatings, starvation, sleep deprivation, being forced to play Cave Story after being injected with hallucinogens - even a hardened soldier like Joe was unable to fully recover from what he experienced at the hand of the Badds/Nazis/Nazz.

Federation propaganda would have you believe that the story of the "Bionic Commando" ended happily, but war never has a happy ending.  The toll on Joe becomes more evident with each passing day, as he battles to (mentally) escape that dank cell in Area 7.  Though I kept it secret for so long out of respect for the Gibson family, I cannot do so any longer... the Federation's heroes are dying before our very eyes, on our video game blogs and message boards... best that the truth is set free and the decision left to the people, rather than the military-industrial complex, how best to care for them.

WHAT SAY YOU?

The Super Joe you see now, who babbles profanities and sees "faggotry" and enemies all around him, is not the man who once served the Federation so heroically.  Perhaps better that he is banned from the community so that, in his final days, he can find solace in his own wild fantasies.  VOTE YAY ON BANNING SUPER JOE.

Or perhaps we should honor his and Nathan's service and the hope that it brought to free nations such that we might someday be able to exorcise from Joe his demons and show him happiness through love of games and game development.  VOTE NAY ON BANNING SUPER JOE.

Or should we be hard on Joe, but understanding, and give him the chance to redeem himself here, on the condition that, starting from now until (1) month after the end of the vote (i.e. 2 months from now), he creates a fully-playable indie game... perhaps not completely on his own, but mostly on his own.  VOTE NAY ON BANNING SUPER JOE ON THE CONDITION THAT HE MAKES A GAME.

TIGers, PIGers, and people of all the free indie gaming nations, cast your votes now, and make your case for whether to ban Super Joe, or not.  Joe, you may also present your case in this thread.  The voting ends in one month.

It is with a heavy heart that I cast my vote. The best choice may not be the right choice, after all. To have made a tainted decision, even when there is no other option... it sickens me to be backed into such a corner. Was my choice correct? The answer may forever elude me.

But what is done is done. My choices here may haunt my dreams, but they will never shake my reality. My choice made, I raise my head up high, and continue forward with all the confidence and determination within myself.

Before I consult my lawyer to work on my defense, I have one thing to say. I'm Super God Damn Joe, hero of the Federated states of America, and I'm subjected to this treatment?

Kiss my ass you BADD sympathiser. 198X was a great year, full of great people like me and Spencer. Then the numbers rolled around and lilly livered faggots like you started popping up learning your mathematics and making your cave stories.

The book learning isn't going so well and I don't know why it keeps making sounds and I can't program the attacks properly. But 'gic damnit I coded that fucking running function without your shitheaded inelegant solution, son.

nay on condition, with the hope that he makes a game more offensive than all his posts combined, multiplied by the radiation of 1 million suns.

I mean, cmon, the guy is a fucking hero. They don't just hand out the 'Super' title to anyone ya know...

Super is a name. Super is a title. Super is a responsibility.

Super is an honour and a duty.

This man may still be able to recover from trauma, and we should, nay, we must give him this chance. He's a hero of the Federation after all.

Nay on condition. Really liked those sprites Joe posted a while back.

EDIT: Changed my mind, voted Yay. For great justice.

I'd like to see him make a game too. But even if he doesn't, he's pretty entertaining. I say NAY.
