Y'know, I kinda like it when things like fast food chains put up holiday-based decorations.
When, say, a McDonalds has store-bought cardboard witches hanging from the ceiling, or fake cobwebs strewn about the corners, or a bat made from a torn-apart paper cup propped against the register. In an environment where everything is decided on a corporate level, from the look and layout of the store, to the promotions plastered on the window, to even having parts of the cashiers' dialog come from a script, it just feels nice that the individuals in the store can decide "yes, this is what this holiday is about", and tack up some paper streamers. It's a touch of personal expression in an otherwise impersonal setting.

yeah when you put those pages against each other there are pretty clear contrasts. I think I was just thrown by my memory of the cover from 4 or 5 years ago or however long it's been since I read it  Same blues and whites and snow, but other than that not much |
